The 80th International Frog Jump Grand Finals~By Hanna Heath
Frogtown, CA....Sunday marked the 80th International Frog Jump Grand Finals out at Frogtown. A few Frog Jump Facts. The Fair began in the late 1800's. The Frog Jump began in Angels Camp in 1928. It was part of a celebration called "Days of 49" officiated by the Angels Boosters. The Frog Jump was inspired by Mark Twain's fictional work, "The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County." The Frog Jump first became part of the Calaveras County Fair in 1938. The World Record was set by "Rosie the Ribiter" in 1986, the frog belonged to Lee Guidici and jumped 21 feet, 5 3/4 inches......

The California Bull Frog is the type of frog that is used most frequently. Frogs must be 4 inches nose to tail. Over 4000 frogs jumped at the 2007 Frog Jump. 50,000 people usually visit the Frog Jump and Jubilee. Brent Bloom was last year's champion with his frog, "Lisa Can do." Brent placed 5th this year.
This years winner was Jacob Smith with his frog "Skeeter Eater." This is Skeeter Eater's 2nd year of hopping.
