Please explain to me why the protests in our area? What happened to George Floyd was tragic, criminal and set race relations back decades. The police officers need to spend much if not all of their lives in jail.

How does white people protesting to other white people solve anything. Just seems to be virtue signaling.

However according to the latest numbers African Americans amount to only 1.9 percent of the population.in Tuolumne and even less in Calaveras.

Not a troll question! Please someone just explain how it solves anything?

I was thinking the same thing! The problem is serious in many areas but here? Just seems like a waste of time. Whites protesting to whites just seems strange

Agreed to some extent. It was challenging when a group of white people are shouting "I Can't Breathe". I do think that it was an opportunity to share voices, but maybe there could have been more of an educational component?

It was very unnecessary. A bunch of Hillbillies standing on each side of the street in 100 degree heat with no physical distancing asking for racial equality when there is only one race in these that foothills.

One side of the street (I like God, Trump and the flag more that you do)

Other side of street (I like black people more than you do)

Both sides walk away (I told them something and I am SO much better than they are)

"...explain how it solves anything." Why don't you explain why your fellow citizens, exercising their free speech, is a problem for you. Why?

We all drive motor vehicles, consume products of all types, listen to music and watch media content, none of which is produced in our foothill counties. This makes us a part of the broader American culture and society. Wanting to seperate ourselves from any association and/or responsibility in George Floyd's death, is either a disingenuous, innocent and naive statement, or fundamentally racist gaslighting.

If you've lived here any amount of time you know which it is. And it ain't good.

Young Millenials who dont have a real clue what they are protesting for, but they think they do... change needs to start at home from birth teaching accountability, respect and morals, which applies to all no matter your skin color. BLM needs to resolve their own black on black victimization which kills more young black males than any other race. Fact is a very low percentage of blacks are killed by law enforcement and the majority are the result of the action of the person killed, usually for shooting at, atacking with weapons etc at law enforcement, who by all means have a right to protect themselves. Floyds situation is rare snd was wrong, which tbe involved officers will pay for, but to protest, riot and destroy peoples livelyhoods, monuments and property is criminal. Unfortunately the liberal agenda will not hold the criminal thugs accountable and not doing so will only enable them in the future to be more destructive. I feel sad for our future generations, they will most likely lose the freedoms we enjoy now, no accoutability will kill this country..

Just maybe the fact that there are so few Blacks (and other minorities) in our communities might provoke another question, why is that so? If life is so great up here why don’t we reach out to the Black community and ask more of them to share our riches? Come live with us. After all, Blacks make up a large percentage of the rural South so they certainly know the.value of rural life. In this way the Mother Lode can truly say come share our rich lifestyle and make Black lives matter.

For those asking “why here? It’s not our problem.” The answer is simple: yes, even tucked away in small mountain communities, it is a problem. For those who hold onto the “all lives matter” statement and honestly think that’s true. What if a single black or any person gets harassed? If all lives matter, then yes it is a problem even here.

Agreed that Black Lives Matter and all lives matter. How does white people protesting to white people help in that. Just seems almost comically moronic and pointless. Like the comment above said about virtue signalling. Shut down a city for hours just to virtue signal to your friends and neighbors.

Oh so Blacks should protest to other Blacks? When all of America, White, Black, Brown, Red, Yellow, demand that All Lives Matter then there will be no need to protest. Just because you don’t see a Black person everyday or even every week doesn’t mean that racism isn’t all around you

True, but protesting to your neighbors is just offensive. You are telling them, "I am better than you because I am protesting" you are saying by implication that if you don't grab a placard and join us then you must be racist.

They are protected by the flag and the constitution to protest whatever they feel justified in protesting. At this time - it’s police brutality and misuse of force. They were not holding signs stating I am better than you...
If you feel that way, that is your reaction to their opinions.

The only way that change, or conversations will be had, is if protests happen here...where we are unfamiliar to the strifes and culture of those who are treated more unjust. Where we can open our minds to at least researching their complaints. The system needs to change - we have the power, here and now. Sheriff Pooley showed us that with his respect of both sides and kneeling with those who question the police. He calmed the waters by acknowledging their reason for protesting and showing them he believes that what the ya re fighting for us true and just.

The first part of my comment regards the death of the man killed. It was thoroughly wrong no matter what color he was! Now, to the point, Floyd got called out because he used counterfeit money to buy cigarettes from a minority store owner. Secondly, he, Floyd was either drunk, proven that he had meth in his system and pot. I guess this moths opera day for today’s thugs. Thirdly, as most black men he wasn’t raised by a father, but a Mom that probably tried her best to bring him up. Why is this an accepted lifestyle no matter what color you are?
The only way I see this being reconciled going forward is having a black police force in the black community, let them police themselves, no more blaming a white cop for brutality, hence this protesting that always turns into rioting and looting will stop for the most part. Every child in America has to be taught respect for law enforcement, black kids are taught that cops kill you, what kind of message is this?
Lastly, not one of us living today had anything to do with the slavery history of our country, so let’s get over that and move forward!
Now, see if you can respond in a mature matter, if it’s vulgar, don’t bother, if you attack don’t bother, everything I just questioned is based on fact, I didn’t get it from CNN, MSNBC, or Fox, I get so puzzled by the lack of tolerance from anyone today! Try being an adult!

Let's bring back the Black Panthers and let them patrol black neighborhoods, that worked so well in the sixties.... Or just let them be overrun by Sharia law, since the Muslim's are now a large populous in MN. Oakland Police lowered their hiring standards in the late seventies early eighties because they could not get enough black applicants that could pass their written entrance test, so instead of working on helping them with a better education they dumbed down the force to reach racial quota's. You have generations of self oppressed people raising more generations of the same, don't think society is going to cure that anytime soon.
