A Bit of Social Distancing Travel Video For You...One Lap Around Lake Tahoe on May 20th

Lake Tahoe, CA/NV...On May 20th we had a business meeting that couldn't be done remotely in the Lake Tahoe area and we thought we would take the opportunity while we were there to see how the Coronovirus shutdown has affected our neighbors to the north. As depressing as it has been in the Mother Lode and Western Slope areas to us it appeared the Tahoe area has fared worse.

Click on the Images Above for Full Sized Images.(You'll be glad you did)

Our economy has been decimated but we still have portions functioning during the shutdown. Here tourism is a large portion of the economy. In the Lake Tahoe area tourism is the economy. The Lake Tahoe area has also been aggressive in deterring visitors including part time homeowners at the start. They have since changed messaging and are now welcoming the second home owners but not tourists that do not have financial ties to the area.

The Lake Tahoe area is also very hard to manage from a jurisdiction perspective. Think about this not only are there two states there are two counties and one city on the Nevada side and three counties and the City of South Lake Tahoe on the California side.

To say it is a hodgepodge of rules and regulations is an understatement.

What it has going for it is a truly visually overwhelming setting.

This video starts at the Casinos in Stateline and goes up the Nevada side through Incline Village and then we curve through Kings Beach and head over to Tahoe City, down West Shore, make a stop in Emerald Bay and back to South Lake Tahoe again.

This is the whole drive...enjoy.

I was recently informed that there will be LE people at each entrance to the lake basin from both states to make sure that people are "essential" workers or delivery people or folks who own property in the area with proof of paperwork. They are also enforcing that all lodging will be closed to travelers except if they are essential workers and need lodging to work in the area.

None of that is true. You can drive straight into the Tahoe basin in a straight line of traffic, just like always.

Pandemics and the Liberal Path
Posted on: 2020-05-22 17:25:23   By: Anonymous

"As for disease, no one wants to be sick. No one wants to make others sick unnecessarily. If we understand those two truths, we have the basis for understanding how a free society can deal intelligently with the presence of disease. People adapt and learn. Professionals get to work with therapies and finding cures. What precisely governments can contribute to this process is unclear.

Economist F.A. Hayek spent a lifetime showing that the essential knowledge necessary to cause society to function and thrive resides in the minds of individual actors. Government is not smarter than society. Nothing is gained by pretending otherwise.

What is needed now more than ever is an immediate restoration of free trade, free enterprise, freedom of movement, commercial rights, and human rights. It’s a hard truth for governments to admit right now but they have failed all over the world. They need to admit it and leave us alone to restore prosperity and health. "

SRS, you are an enigma when it comes to your posts.
You tout social freedoms yet stay at home for protection against the virus.
This goes against what the PotUS has been saying for the last 2 weeks.
His fight for opening the economy full bore will lead to a higher percentage of infections and deaths. That doesn't equate to real leadership.

How do you know if SRS is stating that? Some people-if they want-can express different views on different things too. It doesn't mean that a person is a socialist or whatever! Maybe this person is in the "middle of the road" and has a lot more sense than you?

/\/\ PS And furthermore I don't see SRS as an enigma if that who that really is. As stated before-how do you know that's him saying that?

Go There Please

Beautiful pictures. Let the flatlanders crowd in up there with limited services and spread the virus everywhere. Although the Memorial Day valley infestation was already starting at BT Market this afternoon; no masks, lines down the aisles.
