Governor Newsom Praises California Counties for Pledge to Use Local Authority to Cancel Penalties or Charges for Property Tax Non-Payment Related to COVID-19

Sacramento, CA...Governor Gavin Newsom today released the below statement following the announcement of a commitment from California counties to cancel penalties and other charges for homeowners, small businesses and other property owners with demonstrated economic hardship, on a case-by-case basis, due to COVID-19. Property owners that can afford to pay these taxes should continue to pay on time.

“This is good news for Californians. I would like to thank the California State Association of Counties and the California Association of County Treasurers and Tax Collectors for committing to providing economic relief for residents and small businesses facing hardships due to COVID-19,” said Governor Newsom.

More information on the counties commitment can be found here.

Real leaders come forward during times of pandemic. I’m proud Newsom has done that. Trump however, has shown he isn’t suited for leadership of any kind, let alone president.

Ditto! Thank you Governor Newsome for your forward thinking on this horrible situation. And thank you for accepting responsibility, although it was unnecessary on the subject of not enough tessting. As opposed to trump who said "I don't accept any responsibility'" you have shown true leaadership. Can't wait for the day Trump is shown the door. A true disaster for our country.

I really applaud the counties that will waive the late fees. I understand taxes are due but with the number of people out of work due to the virus, you would think something could be done to postpone the due date, say maybe into July.
One thing you can be sure of is The Calaveras County Assessor will demand her money or place an immediate lien on your property.

If you listen to the press conferences and pay attention to the executive administration of Newsom and New York's Cuomo, it makes me proud to be an American. Trump, Navarro, and the Acting Secretary of the Navy make me ashamed to be an American.

One set of state governments are working together and the Federal government is doing everything it can to run away from the virus. And now we are reliant on Russia and China to send us medical equipment. This is one f--ked up political mess.
