An Update on Matthew McCullough....Fundraiser Being Held on Saturday May 10th at Figaro's of Murphys~From The McCullough Family
"As of today, 5/4/08, Matt only has 3 more radiation treatments. He will then have about a 4-5 week break, before his chemo program. These last few weeks have been tough for Matt. He had to have a blood transfusion, because his red blood cell count was too low. They were only able to give him one unit, because the added blood gave him a high fever. He’s having a second blood transfusion tomorrow. He had to have IV’s everyday last week, to keep him....
hydrated. This upcoming Wednesday, will be Matt’s last radiation treatment. Along with radiation on Wednesday, he has chemo and will also have a small surgery, to place a feeding tube in his stomach. We will need to feed Matt about 12 hours a day, through his feeding tube. Matt hasn’t been able to put the weight back on he lost, during surgery, so we need to beef him up before he starts his second type of chemo.
Although Matt hasn’t been feeling that great, he’s been a busy boy. We all went to the “Relay for Life” on Saturday April 26th. It was so awesome to see all his friends wearing the Avery tee shirts that said “Hawks Walking for Matthew” on the back.
Although Irene has been attending the “Relay for Life”, for about 5 years now, this was Greg’s first year. What an awesome event to see all the positive people and all the support given to cancer survivors and the people fighting it.
Nate Solomon, from Vallecito, gave our family “Field Box Tickets” to the A’s game yesterday. Although the A’s lost 6-3, we had a great time. Matt got 2 balls and Mike and Hannah got 3 balls each. Thank you so much Nate and please tell your Nephew Jason, we really appreciated the tickets.
When we were at the game on Saturday, we met Doug, one of the Texas Rangers trainers. Right before the game started, Doug came up to me and said he lined up tickets for our family, for Sunday’s game. Matt was really tired this morning, but knowing he was going to another A’s game, he found the energy he needed to make it. Today the A’s won 3-1 and it was a great day.
Lani Evans has coordinated a fundraiser event at Figaro’s & Sargo’s Subs in Murphys. It will be held this upcoming Saturday, May 10th. The owners have generously agreed to donate 50% of all food sales for the day, to Matt’s cause.
Thank you Figaro’s & Sargo’s Subs, we really appreciate your support.
The June 8th “Fundraiser” for Matt is getting closer. It will be from 12:00-6:00 PM, at the Cedar Center in Arnold. I’ll post the details when I get them.
Irene and Matt have stayed in Fremont this weekend, since we went to the A’s games. Michael and Hannah are going to Stanford with Irene tomorrow, so they can see what Matt’s radiation machine looks like and get an idea, of what he’s been going through.
Thanks for checking in and as always, thanks for all the love and support.
