Arrests Made After High Speed Chase From Milton to San Andreas

San Andreas, CA...On 2/19/2020, San Andreas CHP officer J. Cooper attempted to stop a sport bike type motorcycle for a speeding violation on Milton Rd near South Gulch Rd. The driver of the motorcycle, Joseph Dykes failed to yield and fled the traffic stop at a high rate of speed. The motorcycle had a passenger, Kyleigh Peterson. Officer Cooper continued to pursue the motorcycle with his lights and siren activated. The pursuit continued on SR-26 through Valley Springs, onto eastbound SR-12 and then onto southbound SR-49 as it entered the town of San Andreas.

During the pursuit Dykes drove at a high rate of speed, using both lanes of the roadway to pass traffic. While being pursued both Dykes and Peterson were observed removing items from their pockets and a backpack being worn by Peterson. At one point Peterson threw an unknown item(s) over a guardrail. Dykes eventually stopped the motorcycle on Bellview St and both Dykes and Peterson were taken into custody without further incident.

During a search of both, a replica firearm and drug paraphernalia were discovered. The item(s) that Peterson threw during the pursuit were never located. Dykes was booked into the county jail for Felony evading, possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting arrest, possession of a replica firearm and numerous license and registration violations.

Peterson was booked into the county jail for resisting arrest, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a replica firearm. Dykes and Peterson also had active arrest warrants in Amador
county.
