Marijuana Cultivation Arrest in West Point

West Point, CA...On 02/13/2020, the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office Marijuana Enforcement Unit served a search warrant for illegal marijuana cultivation on an address located in the 2000 block of Bald Mountain Rd., in West Point. The marijuana was being grown in a large shop building which had been converted for indoor cultivation purposes. The shop was adjacent to a residence. Deputies located and seized 1,460 growing marijuana plants weighing 440 pounds. Calaveras Code Enforcement was called to the scene and red tagged the structure due to dangerous electrical modifications and structural changes. Deputies discovered liquid waste which was discharging onto the ground at the location.

A suspect was contacted at the scene and placed under arrest. Zhong Li, 36, of West Point, was transported to the Calaveras County Jail on charges of 11358 HS Illegal Marijuana Cultivation (Felony), 11359 HS Possession of Marijuana for Sale (Felony), and 11366 HS Maintaining a Drug House (Felony). Li is being held in the Calaveras County Jail with a bail of $100,000.00. Evidence was collected at the scene and the investigation is ongoing.

The Calaveras Sheriff’s Office encourages anyone with knowledge of illegal marijuana operations to call the Sheriff’s Anonymous Marijuana Tip Line at (209) 754-6870.

Just a few minutes ago I was walking back home from the store on my street. My street has no sidewalks and I was also walking home with a flashlight on to be safe. A truck was coming up on a side street at an angle onto my street so I was being watchful and trying to stay on the side as much as I can (no shoulder-just a steep hill). Then another car facing me was waiting for him. Of course, this guy was upset since he had to wait and then he has the nerve to tell me to get off the street. I was just crossing over to get to the side my house was on. Then he passes by cussing at me and asking me if I think I'm bad or something like that. His car, I imagine it was a dark colored Camaro (couldn't really tell in the dark) and reeking of marijuana. So apparently this guy was as high as a kite (and whatever else)! Plus there was another vehicle behind and connected with him (no verbal interchange though). I got the plate #'s and reported them. I have a pen and never leave without it and can write on my hand and always carry a phone. So much for a Friday night! The weirdos are already out there and this was early! Is it still a full moon? lol! Also, that's an accident waiting for a place to happen!

More and dangerous grows leaching chemicals and adding unsafe electrical connections all thanks to Merita Callaway, Ben Stopper and Jack Garamendi who now have permitted these criminals to come to our county and hide in plain sight.

The three ban supervisors cost the general fund tens of million$$$. There was never adequate funding to enforce a total ban. Thanks to Mills and Tofanelli, illegal indoor grows proliferate residential neighborhoods. Regulation brings revenue to fund public safety. You lost CRACM, so stop wasting tax payer money on frivolous lawsuits.

Ditto-Yes! I understand there are still quite a few local illegal growers who are dealing with their court cases-trying to "wriggle out" of it lol! The law is the LAW and when one breaks it, he/she has to pay the consequences!
