Ginger is Your Calaveras County Animal Services Pet of the Week

San Andreas, CA...Meet Ginger, a Pitbull mix estimated to be about one year of age. As smart as they come, Ginger has already learned “sit,” “down” and “high five.” She loves to chase her squeaky ball and usually returns it for more play. She is progressing well on a leash and stays focused on walks though she still pulls a bit, something that can be corrected with more training. Initially Ginger did not like being touched around her face or head but is beginning to accept more handling as we gain her trust. Quiet and attentive, Ginger does not bark and may be housebroken as she keeps her kennel clean. Though eager to play with other dogs, Ginger would likely do best as an only dog since she can be overly enthusiastic in her greetings. We’re confident that she will make a wonderful companion for that special person or family who can provide a firm but gentle hand.

As with all dogs available for adoption at the Calaveras Animal Shelter, Ginger is micro-chipped and up-to-date on routine vaccinations. She will need to be spayed before going home with you.

Come visit Ginger, impound no. AO50750, along with other dogs and cats awaiting their forever homes at Calaveras County Animal Services, 901 Jeff Tuttle Drive, San Andreas (in government center by the new jail). Animal Services is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday - Saturday (closed for lunch from 1-2 p.m.). For more information about this dog, please email kbandy@co.calaveras.ca.us or svavzincak@co.calaveras.ca.us, or call Animal Services directly at 754-6509. Please refer to Honey’s impound number when making inquiries. Adoptable animals may also be viewed on the web at http://animal.calaverasgov.us/Adoptions and on the Calaveras County Animal Services Facebook page.

Volunteers are also desperately needed. Whether you can give a little time or a lot, we could use your help caring for shelter animals or supporting the office. No experience necessary; we will provide training and match you to your interests. Please call 754-6509 for more information.

Animal Services now has a Fee Flexibility Program!
When the dog or cat population at the shelter is at 80% or above capacity, the total adoption fee will be 50% off––reduced to $40 for dogs and $30 for cats. The adoption fee for cats who arrive at the shelter already altered will be $10. With the 55-5-5 Program, any time an adopter is 55 or older and adopts any pet over 5 years old, the adoption fee is $5.
