Calaveras Youth Mentoring Program Offers Prospective Mentor Orientation 4pm, May 12, 2008 in Angels Camp
Angels Camp, CA....The Calaveras Youth Mentoring Program will hold a Prospective Mentor Orientation from 4:00-5:00pm on Monday, May 12 at the mentoring program office at 172 South Main Street, Suite B (under ReMax), Angels Camp. Community members who are interested in the program or considering volunteering as a mentor are invited to meet experienced mentors, ask questions and learn about the program......
The mission of the Calaveras Youth Mentoring Program is to connect Calaveras County young people in 1st through 12th grades with safe, positive adult role models who will offer support, guidance and friendship and help the youth make healthy life decisions. Mentors and mentees spend a couple of hours together every week for at least a year doing things they both enjoy, like sports, going out to supper or a movie, or working on a project.
The Calaveras Youth Mentoring Program is actively recruiting volunteer mentors for students waiting in Angels Camp, San Andreas, Valley Springs, Rail Road Flat and West Point. Potential mentors are thoroughly screened to ensure the safety of the youth in the program. Selected volunteers receive extensive pre-match training and additional training or support each month, plus weekly monitoring of the friendship and invitations to mentor mixers, classes, and group field trips and events.
For more information about the upcoming mentor orientation or the Calaveras Youth Mentoring Program, the public may contact Cristina Saari or Kathryn Eustis at (209) 736-6078, or visit www.calaverasmentoring.org.
