Open Burn Season Starts December 6th, Permits Not Required in Cal Fire TCU

San Andreas, CA...On Friday, December 6, 2019 at 8 a.m. CAL FIRE Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit (TCU) will lift the burn permit requirement for Calaveras, Tuolumne, and the Eastern portions of San Joaquin and Stanislaus Counties, within the State Responsibility Area. CAL FIRE burn permits will NOT be required and burn hours are not restricted. Open burning is allowed on “Permissive Burn Days” as established by the Air Pollution Control District in each county. In Calaveras County, burning on property five acres or more in size requires a permit from the Air Pollution Control District. In Tuolumne County, burning on property two acres or more in size requires a permit from the Air Pollution Control District.

TCU would like to remind residents that creating and maintaining 100 feet of defensible space is essential for increasing your home’s chance of surviving a wildfire. Fall and winter are perfect times to create vertical and horizontal spacing between grass, shrubs, and trees. Please trim trees to keep branches a minimum of 10 feet from other trees.

Safety Tips:
• Remain in attendance of your fire, until it is cool to the touch.
• Make sure there is a water source nearby.
• DO NOT burn on days forecasted to have high or gusty winds.
As always, before you burn, ensure it is a permissive burn day by contacting:
Calaveras County: (209) 754-6600
Tuolumne County: (209) 533-5598
San Joaquin and Stanislaus Counties: (877) 429-2876

For more information you may call your nearest CAL FIRE Station or visit our web site at www.fire.ca.gov and www.ReadyForWildfire.org
