Calaveras County Supervisor Candidates Debate Full Video~By Kim Hamilton

San Andreas, CA....The Calaveras County Sheriffs Association hosted a Candidates Night on Thursday eve at San Andreas Town Hall. All nine Supervisor Candidates were invited to share their platforms and share their visions for Calaveras County. They had to answer some pretty difficult questions to a crowd of approximately 100. The questions were prepared by the Sheriffs Department as John Hamilton, Moderator asked each question.....

Each candidate was seated at a long table with shared microphones. There was a series of 9 questions to be asked but since it was running into the 2 1/2 hour mark, they decided to cut it short with about 6 questions. Some of questions asked were "If you were King or Queen for the day what would you do to change Calaveras County?", "How do you propose we pay for a better infrastructure?" "How to we attract new growth to Calaveras County?",

The new jail was also brought up. "Where is the county going to get the estimated $2million needed to staff the jail?" Most of the candidates suggested renting out the extra beds to surrounding counties. Kathy Mazzaferro suggested using the old jail as a Juvenile facility, Zarrell McDaniel agreed.

Each candidate was given the opportunity to answer questions regarding the important issues that face Calaveras County.

Most of the candidates agreed that we do need to bring new retail into the area, but how are we going to attract them with our current infrastructure.

Candidates in Attendance were:

District I

Gary Tofanelli of Valley Springs
Kathy Mazzeferro of San Andreas
Zarrell McDaniel of San Andreas

District II

Steve Wilensky of Wilseyville
John Morse of Mountain Ranch

District 4
