Calaveras Shines at State Travel Media Event!
Calaveras County, CA....It was a big night for the Calaveras Visitors Bureau when they recently participated in the California Travel and Tourism Commission’s (CTTC) San Francisco Media Event held at the Ritz Carlton. The CVB came away with some great contacts as well as some recognition that Calaveras County can be proud of.....

The CTTC Media Event brings together California attractions and destinations all under one roof to meet one on one with key media from California’s Bay Area and beyond. According to Lisa Reynolds, Executive Director of the Calaveras Visitors Bureau, as a result of the event the CVB is already making arrangements for hosting the author of a Northern California guidebook who is coming to stay for four nights in Calaveras County. Other contacts include KGO Radio, the San Francisco Chronicle, VIA Magazine and the San Jose Mercury News. “These events are important because they’re an opportunity to build on media relationships and start new ones. It’s a great way to get in front of travel media and let them know what’s new and what’s happening,” states Reynolds.
Reynolds and Anna Davies (also of the Calaveras Visitors Bureau) represented Calaveras County at this major media event. Included in the evening is a table display competition. Out of 65 tables, Calaveras County won for the best table, beating out competition such as Disneyland, Sea World and other big name attractions as well as many visitor bureaus from throughout the state. “It was really exciting to finally win. We were told we’ve always been a finalist, “says Reynolds. “To get this kind of recognition from CTTC means a lot to us. Winning the competition combined with the great media contacts we made, made this night an extra special one for Calaveras County.”
The Calaveras table featured a famous gold mining frog from last year’s State Fair booth as well as fresh tulips from Ironstone Vineyards, various bottles of wine and some fun giveaways including gold frog pins, wine bottle openers and handmade wine glass markers from Irish Vineyards. Rubber chickens, compliments of Twisted Oak Winery, were amazingly popular and served as a great conversation piece with many of the media.
The CVB has now partnered with the CTTC in four of their media events in both San Francisco and New York and the events have resulted in valuable media coverage for Calaveras County.
