Pet of the Week is Mandy & She Awaits Her New Home

San Andreas, CA...Meet Mandy, a Brindle Pit bull estimated to be about three years of age. All we really know about this sweet girl is that she recently had puppies and cannot quite understand why no one seems to be looking for her. Mandy enjoys all handling including bath time and has had a few successful play dates with other shelter dogs. She absolutely adores playing ball and will retrieve again and again which goes a long way in burning off her energy. Though exuberant, she listens well, is gentle and affectionate. Eager to share her joy, Mandy will jump up to greet her handler and pulls a bit on the leash so it is important that her special person continues to offer a firm but loving hand.

As with all dogs available for adoption at the Calaveras Animal Shelter, Mandy is micro-chipped, has tested negative for heartworm and is up-to-date on her routine vaccinations. Mandy will need to be spayed before going home with you.

Come visit Mandy, impound no. AO50492, along with other dogs and cats awaiting their forever homes at Calaveras County Animal Services, 901 Jeff Tuttle Drive, San Andreas (in government center by the new jail). Animal Services is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday - Saturday (closed for lunch from 1-2 p.m.). For more information about this dog, please email kbandy@co.calaveras.ca.us or svavzincak@co.calaveras.ca.us, or call Animal Services directly at 754-6509. Please refer to her impound number when making inquiries. Adoptable animals may also be viewed on the web at http://animal.calaverasgov.us/Adoptions and on the Calaveras County Animal Services Facebook page.

Volunteers also are desperately needed. Whether you can give a little time or a lot, we could use your help caring for shelter animals or supporting the office. No experience necessary; we will provide training and match you to your interests. Please call 754-6509 for more information.

Nice looking dog, hope she goes to a good home! Obviously 90% of the regulars on the pinetree.net would not be up to standard.

A pit bull just mauled a 4 year boy to death in his home last week. A 13 month old was killed by a pit bull in Granite Bay in Sept, and 2 year old was killed by one in July, and on and on....
Why would anyone put themselves and their children in harm’s way? Cannot understand taking that risk!!! I don’t want to hear how sweet they are. I’m sure many are. But again....think of the risk!!

Does the shelter assume any liability of a tragedy. Shouldn’t they disclose the expectations for the breed? Should children be in the home?
