Deputies Respond to Residential Fire at Indoor Marijuana Growing Operation

Valley Springs, CA...(This story is a bit late in getting up as it was buried in the PG&E PSPS lead up) On October 8, 2019 at about 6:35 AM, Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a residential fire in the 8000 Block of Center Drive, Jenny Lind. According to fire staff, the doors and windows were boarded up making entry into the structure and extinguishing the fire extremely difficult and dangerous. This is a characteristic similar to other indoor marijuana grows where the windows and doorways are sealed to conceal the illegal activity inside.

Once the fire was extinguished, an indoor marijuana growing operation was located. Calaveras County Investigators were dispatched to the scene to assist with determining the origin of the fire and to investigate the marijuana cultivation. The Marijuana Enforcement Team inspected the residence and confirmed the residence had been converted into an illegal marijuana cultivation operation. The fire effected the areas within the home which had been converted and it is estimated 1,000 plants were destroyed. (S) Huang Yao (58 years old) of Jenny Lind was present and issued a citation for 11358H&S illegal marijuana cultivation.

Personnel on scene were thankful this preventable incident did not happen during the high wind event projected to occur over the next several days. High winds and low fuel moisture significantly increase fire danger.
This is an ongoing investigation, no further information is available at this time

Fire Prevention Tips
• Install and maintain smoke alarms on every floor of your home and within every bedroom. Roughly, 50% of home fire deaths occur during the night while people are sleeping.
• Never leave food cooking unattended, especially deep fryers and other frying equipment.
• Avoid using portable and fixed space heaters, as heating equipment is the second leading cause of home fire deaths.
• Have a fire plan that gets you out of your home in less than two minutes and practice it.
• Avoid smoking in the house.
• Remove all dead plants, grass and weeds (vegetation) from around house.
• Remove dead or dry leaves and pine needles from your yard, roof and rain gutters.
• Trim trees regularly to keep branches a minimum of 10 feet from other trees.
• Remove branches that hang over your roof and keep dead branches 10 feet away from your chimney.
• Remove or prune flammable plants and shrubs near windows.
• Remove vegetation and items that could catch fire from around and under decks.

How to use a Fire Extinguisher
• Pull the pin. Hold the fire extinguisher with the nozzle pointing away from you and remove the pin to unlock it.
• Aim low. Point the nozzle at the base of the fire.
• Squeeze the lever slowly and evenly.
• Sweep the nozzle from side-to-side.

Calaveras needs regulations and education for idiots like this who should only be permitted to grow in industrial buildings with a local and state permit

I disagree, we need to continue the ban, dump any regulatory ordinance.

Furthermore, when residential fires are caused by growers such as the alleged Mr. Yao, we need to toss their sorry criminal butts on top of the fire they started.

You can disagree all you want, our BOS knows what's good for us and that's marijuana cultivation with a gigantic load of taxes on it to make 💰
Which will make this county Democrat stronger. We all know if it's something regarding drugs and/or stealing drugs the criminals will come and that's a fact.

Are you a lemming? Any time one thinks the government knows what's best for us, one has given up on independent thinking. There is no load of tax money when small growers cannot thrive. Give it a rest. Then research some more.

This is the kind of news that we at CRACM love to see. We support indoor cultivation and believe these house fires, while regrettable, are a necessary consequence of the Ban that we wholeheartedly support.

No. All other contiguous counties around Calaveras have a Ban on commercial cultivation Singing the same old lie about regulations is a farce. Fact: There were more illegal growers flocking here when the UO was in place doing worse things. Now that they're hearing we're reconsidering this idiocy? Look at this.

No. Amsterdam has this right. They even let people smoke out in public. What you won't see is commercial growing. If any Dutch citizen is caught growing more than their allotted 5 plants, they go to jail for a VERY long time. The open-minded Dutch know enough to not want anything to do with commercial cultivation.

Just Watch, the Ban will continue because regulation simply does not work! The regulation coming up soon for the 3/2 vote is in itself a disaster waiting to happen! So the banners win win win because the shallow minded regulators will not get it done. . .

Very foolish and uninformed comments regarding the cannabis ban. With regulations, the idiot who burned would need a building permit to set up his operation if he passed his application with county and state. The building inspector would call out his poorly wired lights. The BAN is out and will not come back. The Sherrif stated on the record recently the ban did not in any way stop the illegal grows from happening. Regulation willbring in funding to eradicate all illegal grows. Hey dont listen to me just have another whickey and jump up and down yell and scream

Wrong and almost funny. This proposed regulation has no teeth. It is a open-handed gift to growers. Attorney and Planning Commissioner Tim Laddish changed wording from "liability" to "duty." He went on to neuter the entire thing. Then he snuck Manufacturing and other dangerous business within the document. We read. We check. We object.

      "Bans work"

Millions of people worldwide who have died of overdoses would disagree with you. If you can't 100% eliminate the demand and 100% control the supply. Then human ingenuity will create a way to deliver anything to any market.

if you believe in the Christian worldview then literally in the beginning. There was a ban on fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

That's literally the basis of why humans are here if you believe in the christian worldview ( or really any abrahamic religion )

So bans don't work , but do we need regulation on how to grow a plant? No we never have, plants grow naturally all over this earth. If you want to spend your time growing plants that's your prerogative.

There's more to add but you can fill in the blanks with the fairytale of your Choosing.

The presidency of Barack Obama should be the final nail for the democratic coffin.

While many lauded the election of a black man, what exactly did he accomplish? Movements seeking to hold him accountable the last eight years have seen an endless engagement in war, increased drone use, a crackdown on whistle blowers, the failure to close Guantanamo Bay, an Affordable Care Act that still leaves millions of Americans without any form of healthcare. And he ushered the most deportations of any president in American history.

It is also under President Obama that the Ferguson and Baltimore uprisings occurred. The Black Lives Matter movement rose in the midst of his silence and inaction. And, very personal for me as a Boricua, he ignored the island of Puerto Rico and those American citizens for more than eight years, but had no problem signing the PROMESA bill that put in place a financial control board that will stifle any opportunity for the island to rebuild its economy on its own terms.

A key difference between Hillary and Donald Trump is that despite Trump's rhetoric, Hillary has strong and deep ties to the corporate and military industrial complex. She has a skilled propaganda machine as witnessed through the latest scandal in the party ahead of its convention. She has the funders and tools of war and economic suppression.

Why in the blue hell would people support a political party that has the funders and tools of war and economic suppression yet when the cameras are rolling they say their for the people and feed them lie after lie after lie?
