A Wonderful Day for Sipping Wine ~By Hanna Heath

Murphys, CA….Hundreds of people turned out for the Annual Festival of Wine fundraiser held on Saturday. It was an enjoyable event where family and friends could stroll downtown Murphys, enjoy delectable hors d’oeuvres, and sample extraordinary wines from Calaveras Counties finest wineries. The day started with check in where participants received a Festival of Wine engraved tasting wine glass. 19 different wineries participated in the event and had qualified staff to answer any questions about their specific wines…..

The tour started at Piazza Eclectic Home Décor and ended with Murphys Motorcycle Company. The Festival paired prominent wineries who are members of the Calaveras Winegrape Alliance with charming Murphys Main Street shops for a truly enjoyable afternoon. The whole tour is listed below:

1. Piazza – Indian Rock Vineyards
2. Villa Mia Antiques – French Hill Winery
3. Uptown Mercantile – Newsome-Harlow Wines
4. Laney’s Closet- Stevenot Winery
5. Country Flower Hutch – Ironstone Vineyards
6. Animal Kingdom – Brice Station
7. Enchanted Workshop – Twisted Oak Winery
8. Premier Properties – Solomon Wines
9. Murphys Silver Company – Black Sheep
10. Studio Gallery – Laraine Wines/ Gerber Vineyards
11. Murphys Old Times Museum – Zucca Mountain Vineyards
12. The Art Gallery – Milliare Winery
13. Kristine’s – Chatom Vineyards
14. Sustenance Books – Bodega Del Sur Winery
15. Creative Cookware – Lavender Ridge Vineyard
16. Nelson’s Candies – Frog’s Tooth Winery
17. Moon Alley – Vina Moda Winery
18. Century 21/ Sierra Properties – Broll Mountain Vineyards
19. Murphys Motorcycle Company – Hatcher Winery

Along with a beautiful scenic and tasteful wine tour, a Silent Auction featuring unique items from businesses throughout Calaveras County helped with the fundraiser. The Festival helped support the Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation and its efforts to improve the healthcare in Calaveras County. The Foundation is currently in a campaign to raise $1 million to purchase Digital Mammography technology for the hospital to help improve women’s health.

Since the campaign started the total funds raised have reached $517,000. “All of the money we have raised was from donations,” shared Susi Miller. The foundation recently started doing fundraisers. The next fundraiser will be a gold tournament and the Angel Auction at Green Horn Creek in Angels Camp.
