Something to Crow About! Chicken Adoption Event This Friday & Saturday

Angels Camp, CA...Something to Crow About! There will be a Chicken Adoption Event at the Calaveras County Fairgrounds this Friday & Saturday, September 13th & 14th From 10 am to 2 pm. Over 100 hens & young chickens of various ages available $2.50 each or $5.00 per pair; cash only Bring your own carriers or crates

The Calaveras County fairgrounds is housing 156 roosters, hens and chicks after an illegal marijuana grow was raided by the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office on August 28th in Copperopolis. Calaveras County Animal Services assisted by fairgrounds staff, Sheriff’s Office volunteers and Calaveras County Code Compliance worked from morning until past midnight to rescue the birds and transport them safely to the fairgrounds.

The roosters are sadly not available but many healthy, beautiful hens and chicks are in need of homes and ready for adoption now.

Please help!
Questions? Please call Animal Services at 754-6509

Event occurs on 09/13/2019 from 10:00 AM to 02:00 PM.

Great event with a nice gesture and I hope there is a good turnout and all chickens get good homes. This just goes to show that a bad thing (like the cultivation bust) can turn into a good thing in regards to saving all these chickens!

Thank you. So good for volunteers and county staff to read positive comments for all they are trying to do!

Put them in a barrel, cook them, SRS can then distribute them to visitors to the woodshed.

Why does it say 2.50 each or two for 5.00? I think we can do the math. It’s not a deal.

Whoever did the math on this one should think about going back to school. $2.50 each or two for $5.00 sounds like a hellva deal

$2.50 is. They're trying to promote multiple adoptions, obviously. How about you go volunteer with animals or some other nonprofit instead of having a need to find fault?

But that’s my whole point...they are NOT promoting multiple adoptions by saying two for $5. THERE IS NO PRICE INCENTIVE WITH THAT PRICING! Why not say two for $4.50?

Many birds were found dead and dying in cages along with live ones. Perhaps "visitors" might do a better job with their day to day care.

A lot of these people have been feeding ground cinnamon to their chickens to make their meat better. I am not sure how this will impact the meat but it is actually happening.
