Over 2,500 Death Ride Cyclists Closing Hwy 4 over Ebbetts Pass Tomorrow.

Bear Valley, CA...Hwy 4 over Ebbetts Pass will be closed from 5am to 3pm July 13th for Car & Truck traffic. It will however have over 2,500 human powered vehicles filling the roadways for the cardio insanity, lactic acid inducing, road rash filled, sadomasochism festival known as the Death Ride. It's 129 miles & 15,000 feet of climbing that draws riders from all over the world to see if they can get their "5 Pass" sticker. Yes we humans are a strange bunch. Even though the event won't get any closer to us than Hermit Valley the Bear Valley community helps man and woman the Hermit Valley aid station that helps get the riders refueled, repaired and the kinks worked out before they head back up to the Ebbetts Pass Summit. Below are a few pics from our archive from 2010...

From DeathRide.com

"Located in the stunning California Alps, the Tour of the California Alps – Death Ride® course covers the traditional five mountain passes. This challenging course includes climbing both sides of Monitor Pass, both sides of Ebbetts Pass, and the final climb up the east side of Carson Pass. Cyclists will register and finish at Turtle Rock Park, located two miles north of Markleeville, CA."

You can tell a happy bike rider by the amount of duck butter on the seat post :-)
