Calaveras County and City of Angels Camp to Begin Survey of Road Conditions
San Andreas, CA...In April 2017, Senate Bill 1 (SB 1) was signed, which will invest $52.4 billion dollars over the next decade to fix roads, freeways and bridges in communities across California. The new funding package results in an average annual increase of approximately $2.5 million for Calaveras County and $75 thousand for the City of Angels Camp over the next ten years dedicated to maintenance and rehabilitation projects. To ensure that Calaveras County residents get the most cost-effective maintenance plan from these additional revenues, the County and City are working to implement a Pavement Management Plan.
Nichols Consulting Engineers, Chtd. (NCE) was selected by the Calaveras Council of Governments (CCOG) to assist the County and City in implementing a Pavement Management Plan. This process begins with the development of an inventory of County and City-maintained roads which includes road condition surveys. The condition assessment will be performed by a two-person field crew traveling in a van. The survey will collect pavement distress type, extent, and severity data for all County and City-maintained roads, encompassing a total of 892 center lane miles. Data collection is expected to take about five weeks and will begin the first week of July 2019.
After data collection, pavement condition indices will be calculated for each roadway section, maintenance and rehabilitation strategies will be developed based on current material and construction costs, and budget scenario analyses will be performed. A final report detailing the current condition of County and City-maintained roads as well as the effect of various funding scenarios on the network pavement condition will be provided to each jurisdiction and the CCOG at the conclusion of this project.
