Calaveras Students Flex Their Math Muscles

San Andreas – On May 21st, students from all across Calaveras County flexed their math muscles at the 39th Annual Math Mini Bowl competition at Calaveras River Academy/Mountain Oaks in San Andreas. This year students ran into the competition as their schools were announced, music pumping and spotlights dancing. Excitement mounted as each team prepared to bring their best math skills to the table. Each year the Calaveras County Office of Education and the Teichert Foundation sponsors this event.

Over 100 5th and 6th grade students competed from nine Calaveras County Schools, representing:
Avery Middle School, Albert Michelson Elementary, Christian Family Learning Center, Copperopolis Elementary, Hazel Fischer Elementary, Jenny Lind Elementary, San Andreas Elementary, Mark Twain Elementary and Mokelumne Hill Elementary.

The Math Mini-Bowl is a homegrown Calaveras tradition with competitions in three categories: The BLITZ (an individual competition), the BOMB (a five-member team event), and the HUDDLE (a pairs competition). All tests are based on the new California math standards.

Freedom of speech and by the way 2+2=4 and 2x2=4. Isn't that amazing? Isn't that amazing when one had a clear head and can figure things right instead of being stoned all the time and say duh, I don't know the answer?

No it’s not amazing that 2 twos equals 2 twos...but glad you’re impressed.
But it is exciting for these kids to be able to compete in academics and show what they know. Way to go!!!
Now, what’s the square root of 4?
