8th Grade Family Night at Bret Harte High School ~By Hanna Heath
Angels Camp, CA….Students from Avery Middle School and Mark Twain Elementary, along with their families attended the annual eighth grade family night at Bret Harte High School. As families arrived parents were able to schedule registration appointments for their incoming freshman. Students also received a high school packet filled with helpful information that will help guide them through high school smoothly…..
  
High school is very complex compared to an elementary or junior high, students need to be well prepared and ready for a challenge. During a speech given by Superintendent Michael Chimente, he shared “students should take advantage of all the opportunities Bret Harte offers, including FFA, Drama, Band, FHA, and Athletics.”
Students were given the opportunity to meet with teachers of various departments including math, science, history and ect…. Bret Harte clubs and organizations also had booths explaining their objectives and fun activities.
The packet that students received included the following:
New to Bret Harte Link Crew…. Link Crew is a freshman transition program designed to ease incoming freshman into high school atmosphere. Link Crew is comprised of Link Leader (students who act as big brothers and sisters for freshman students) Link Crew Coordinators and the A-team (sophomores who support Link Crew in all facets). There are a variety of activities that the Link Crew program puts on for the incoming freshman class some of which are: Frosh Orientation August 18th, First Day of School August 20th, Football Tailgate Party September 26th, and Coco and Cram (study sessions.
Communications Calendar…… The master calendar, a handy list of local events and activities during the upcoming school year.
