Jr. Miss Calaveras Candidates ~By Hanna Heath

Angels Camp, CA….Four young eighth grade beauties signed up to run for this years Jr. Miss Calaveras pageant today. Today, Event Coordinator Ed Ritter and Queen Coordinator Cheri LaSan held a pageant meeting at the Altaville Melones Volunteer Fire Department, to answer any questions from the queen candidates and to hand out a roll of raffle tickets among the girls. This year’s pageant will be judged on the following…….

Ten percent of the girl’s scores go towards raffle ticket sales. In order to even qualify to run for Jr. Miss Calaveras the candidates must sell at least three hundred tickets. Each ticket cost $.50 and benefits the local volunteer fire department. Thirty percent of the scoring is beauty, face, and figure. Another thirty percent goes to personality. The last thirty percent is based on grace and charm.

The winner of this year’s Jr. Queen Pageant will be introduced during the Miss Calaveras pageant, Thursday night of fair, and will participate in many parades throughout the year. Her court will also participate during each parade. There are two runner-ups for the pageant, the 1st princess and the 2nd princess, all which will be announced on Saturday May 10th. The queen will also receive a weekend pass to the Calaveras Jumping Frog Jubilee Fair.

The queen candidates for the 2008 Jr. Miss Calaveras are:

Morgan Taylor from Avery Middle School
Cory Severed from Avery Middle School
Ashleigh Zakharin from Avery Middle School
Andrea Conway for Mark Twain Elementary
