Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez SXSW 2019 Interview

Austin, TX...As New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez continues to galvanize the left (and frustrate the right), what’s driving her unique appeal has become an increasingly compelling question. Is it her identity or her substantive politics? Or both? Ocasio-Cortez's embrace of democratic socialism has been emphasized by the right, which seeks to paint her as out of touch with mainstream American values. But arguably, it's her progressive ideals that provide the basis for a human-centered politics that connect with a majority of Americans.

The Intercept's Senior Politics Editor Briahna Gray will talk to Ocasio-Cortez about identity, the race/class divide, and how these factors are likely to play out in the years ahead.

About SXSW:
SXSW dedicates itself to helping creative people achieve their goals. Founded in 1987, SXSW is best known for its conference and festivals that celebrate the convergence of the interactive, film, and music industries. An essential destination for global professionals, the event features sessions, showcases, screenings, exhibitions, and a variety of networking opportunities. SXSW proves that the most unexpected discoveries happen when diverse topics and people come together. SXSW 2019 takes place every March in Austin, Texas.

People Not Corporate Centered
Posted on: 2019-03-11 10:05:38   By: Anonymous

Long past due is the return of the power of the people over corporations.
The 2 unnecessary tax cuts for the $billionaires helped them not the people.
The policies of Congress have been pro corporations anti majority of Americans.
It is long past due that our Democracy is returned to the people, thru election reform , ending the Republican schemes of voter purges, and lists used in 27 states that purged legal likely Democratic voters.
If our voting system was overhauled to allow all legal voters their vote, America can be returned to the people with people centered politics, not corporate centered politics.

The outcry of socialism by the Republicans indicates they know this issue is at the heart of why America doesn't work for average Americans, Congress has been hijacked by voter schemes such as gerrymandering, voter Id, Interstate Crosscheck , and voter purge lists well documented.

The 2016 election was stolen, mainly in 3 states, Wi, Mi, Pa. where there was rampant voter purges, and manipulation of voting machines in Black precincts.

We have an illegitimate administration composed of billionaires who only wish to make themselves richer thru government. The emoluments clause of the Constitution has been trashed by a soon to be criminal and his crime family.

Americans in polls want what the democratic socialist candidates offer - better social security, medicare for all, free college , less military spending and endless wars. This is what the majority want. In a true , uncorrupted Democracy , the government should reflect what the majority vote for. This was denied in 2016.

New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez should learn that nothing free is free. Somebody has to pay for it.
To see the future of her policies just look a Venezuela, Cuba or North Korea.

I know I'm not, but what are you. Ok call me a friggin low life trailer trash or whatever-doesn't phase me a bit. Just cause one lives in a trailer doesn't mean he or she is a low life. By the way, I don't live in a trailer so wrong again! Now who's doing the profile and racist comments? Also I'm not an ignorant cross breed hill billy either! I know about this county well and better than some of you who weren't even born yet when I first came here. Some of you haven't even been out in that "big world" yet and experienced what I have whether it was good or bad! And I'm a very seasoned man and straightforward-tell you like it is and tell you what the REAL time is. It's time to MAGA and BAN!

Just remember one thing....all this crap cost big time money. It will come out of your pocket. You'll have free everything, but you won't own a home, or a car, and be eating ramen 3 times a day. Oh, and your free education won't get you a job because there won't be any available. Move to Venezuela and see how that all works for you. Pull your head out of your a** libtard

Sad how so many buy the Fox /Conservative all for the corporations/.001% propaganda. No surprise the GOP- the party of only the .001% gets 80% of the tax cuts , which didn't boost the economy as they said. They lied again, who knew? Sad how stupid they take the 99% for. Fool me once..... shame on all you repub rubes.
If we had an equitable tax system , the profit soaked corporations, with their tax avoidance schemes such as off shore profit accounting and derivative traders would be paying taxes. Instead, the Republicans passed a national debt ballooning 2 $Trillion additional debt , and say "we can't afford" a Green New Deal , or Medicate for all, or free 2 year college, because it costs too much.

There is more than enough $ for all of it, especially if you reduce the absurd defense budget, which is the true national emergency.

Ayn Rand- No Medicare, Social Security , or many social programs that polls say people want.

Rand was a hypocrite, as she took social assistance when she needed it.
If you read her biography, you will start to understand her ideology, which was formed of her fear of communism, she experienced, she was Russian.

Ayn Rand (/aɪn/;[1] born Alisa Zinovyevna Rosenbaum;[a] February 2 [O.S. January 20] 1905 – March 6, 1982) was a Russian-American writer and philosopher.[2] She is known for her two best-selling novels, The Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged, and for developing a philosophical system she named Objectivism. Educated in Russia, she moved to the United States in 1926. She had a play produced on Broadway in 1935 and 1936. After two early novels that were initially unsuccessful, she achieved fame with her 1943 novel, The Fountainhead. In 1957, Rand published her best-known work, the novel Atlas Shrugged. Afterward, she turned to non-fiction to promote her philosophy, publishing her own periodicals and releasing several collections of essays until her death in 1982.

Rand advocated reason as the only means of acquiring knowledge and rejected faith and religion. She supported rational and ethical egoism and rejected altruism. In politics, she condemned the initiation of force as immoral[3] and opposed collectivism and statism as well as anarchism, instead supporting laissez-faire capitalism, which she defined as the system based on recognizing individual rights, including property rights.[4] In art, Rand promoted romantic realism. She was sharply critical of most philosophers and philosophical traditions known to her, except for Aristotle, Thomas Aquinas and classical liberals.[5]

Of course we are all hypocrites but arguing if govts should own means of production is just idiocy. Private sector in most industries can run an enterprise and make a profit before a govt entity could change a lightbulb

You big dummy. You ant see that trump and the republicans have been spoon feed ing you with lies and propaganda, while they have been diverting the nations wealth from the middle class to the rich for decades. just like his recent tax cut giving trillions to the wealthy and corporations, creating trillions in national debt, and then they want to cut medicare and social security and other important programs, tom pay for their new trillion dollar tax cuts. Wake up. this nation was created in part to provide for the general welfare (Peamble to the Constitution). that means the people....you, me , our families and neighbors, not the super rich l.
