Hwy 26 Expected to Remain Closed 2 - 3 Weeks for "Valentine's Day Deluge" Cleanup

West Point, CA...From Caltrans..."Behind the Scenes: Clean-up Continues on State Route 26 in Calaveras County After Valentine's Day Deluge State Route 26 remains CLOSED due to storm Damage from the "Valentine's Day Deluge" that swamped Calaveras County on February 14, 2019. Take a peek behind the closure gate of the photos that our maintenance inspector snapped of the work occurring to repair the damage to understand why the closure is in place. Caltrans maintenance crews worked through the storm and got busy clearing the more than a dozen smaller slides to make the road as accessible as possible.

An emergency contract was established the day after the storm to repair the larger damaged areas. The contractor has been working tirelessly to clear the roadway and make necessary repairs.

The closure is in place between Deardorff Road and Woodhouse Mine Road east of Glencoe. The road is expected to remain closed for approximately 2-3 weeks until one-way traffic control can be established while the work is completed.

Thanks for your patience while the clean-up work is underway."
