This May Be The Only Device You Will Need....Long Term Test of the New HTC Windows Mobile Smartphone from Golden State Cellular~By John Hamilton

Sonora, CA...We are so excited to be performing a long term review and test of the new HTC 6800 Windows Mobile Smartphone. Yes, you need a good phone first and foremost. However, many people need to check websites, view a PDF and make adjustments to their spreadsheets on the fly. This can be a difference from being tied to the office and actually being able to see your family, attend a school functions and have a semblance of a normal life. More and more of us are expected to be able to do anything from anywhere and as companies get leaner and leaner all of us need to be productive and capable at a moments notice. If you are using a phone such as HTC Windows mobile Smartphone, then you can expect most of the functionality of your office to be right in your pocket. In fact we are writing most of this article directly from the phone. Phones such as this one are really challenging the definition of what it means for a device to be called a phone. Yes it is a great phone with excellent reception. It is also much, much more...

If you are local resident these phones can put you on the same productivity level as those in major metropolitan areas. This is a big deal for many people who would love to spend more time in our area but need to also be able to work effectively.

Devices such as these phones in some ways may allow you to even leave your laptop at home. They have a good web browser, integrated keyboards, nice bright large screens and expandable memory slots. The HTC Windows Smartphone can can also shoot photos and video in high quality, and can run third party applications and programs.

In Japan last year for the first time sales of computers actually dropped. Many believe that this was the signal that the wave of the handset has begun. Many of today's handsets are good enough that web-browsing is now acceptable. For a growing segment of the population, today's handsets can give them everything they need.

The knock several years ago on the first wave of Treos and also many Windows Mobile devices is that they were good devices but not great phones. If all you needed was to make calls than they were not worth the price.

The latest round of phones changed all of that. From the iPhone from Apple to the HTC 6800 such as the phone we are testing we can attest that the radio or phone part of these is as good as almost any phone out there. Many of these phones also incorporate Wi-Fi or 802.11 to allow you to take advantage of these connections as well when they are available. If you are looking at pure glitz then the iPhone is probably still the sexiest phone out there. If you want to get real work done then phones such as the HTC 6800 with it's integrated keyboard and vastly Superior coverage area from Golden State Cellular here locally would make it much better choice for most local residents.

We will be will be doing a series of articles on how you can get the most out of your new Windows Mobile Phone. This is the initial overview and then we will be following this with four additional articles. There will be a Web Piece on how to get the most from your small screen web-browsing experience. A Multimedia Piece on how to shoot photos, videos and how to play music and watch videos right in the palm of your hand. There will also be an Email Piece and we will finish up with a Document and Third Party Ap Piece.

If you get the chance stop by one of Golden States Stores and kick the tires on some of their new phones. There is another added advantage from dealing with a local carrier in that most of their phones are "Unlocked" phones and are capable of running and installing a wide range of third party applications. Many of the big carriers have phones that are locked down and designed to run only on their networks. The iPhone is the prime example. It is tied to only the ATT network and Apple and ATT have a significant amount of control over what applications you can run on your device.

So check back with us next week when we will have the next installment of our phone test.
