well as promotional support in the form of a national sweepstakes with a chance to win a 15-day Grand Canyon rafting trip for two. Shot in four weeks almost entirely on the Colorado River, the challenging production took the 300-pound 3D IMAX camera through its paces and involved the cooperation of three Indian nations, the National Park Service, O.A.R.S. and Teva. The film features songs and music by Dave Matthews Band.
Nearly four decades ago, O.A.R.S. President and Founder, George Wendt, journeyed down the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon. The trip inspired him to establish an adventure travel company, which was the first exclusively oar-powered outfitter permitted to run the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon back in 1969. The company is now the largest and most geographically diverse river outfitter in the West, running rivers throughout California, Idaho, Oregon, Utah, Wyoming and the Grand Canyon as well as throughout Latin America, Fiji, Mexico and Canada.
Doors openend at 6:30 PM for an informal reception with O.A.R.S. Founder and President, George Wendt, and writer/conservationist/former Sunset Magazine editor/founder of Grand Canyon Dories Martin Litton. The event was a benefit for his nonprofit organization Sequoia ForestKeeper. The event was co-sponsored by Teva, ClifBar & Company and Smith Optics who have provided free gear and items for door prizes.
The IMAX film, "Grand Canyon Adventure: River at Risk" opens Friday March 21st nationwide. This is a wonderful movie for families, kids of all ages, schools, etc. It is estimated that up to 10,000,000 viewers will see the film in the next several years.
Since July 1999, more than two million people have enjoyed The IMAX Experience at Sacramento's Esquire IMAX Theatre. Every seat in the house offers an immersive experience with 12,000 watts of digital wrap-around sound and polarized glasses for 3D viewing (provided by Esquire).
