I know it's probably impossible to have a polite conversation here, but I thought it was a moving and very respectful ceremony. I didn't agree with lots of Bush's policy decisions but I always respected his service and commitment to the country. The country is poorer for his loss. RIP

    That was nicely said.
I am a democrat, but President Bush was truly a great man, he wanted nothing but to serve and better his country, OUR country.
Sadly times have changed so much in such a short time.

So why is it that practically all dems and 93% of the mainstream media voted against H.W. and trashed him incessantly? Bunch of two faced, mealymouthed, phony, insincere, fake, heartless, double-dealing, brown nosing hypocritical waste of human DNA..

I voted for Clinton over G.H.W. Bush because Clinton had a better understanding of the US economy and what it needed. And that proved true. We had prosperity and eventually a budget surplus under Clinton. You never get budget surpluses under Republican administrations.

Also Bush inflicted Clarence Thomas on us and SCOTUS and that was a deal breaker for me.

As for hypocrisy, how do you excuse Republican's criticizing Bill Clinton for his marriage infidelities but excuse much worse in Trump?

How sad the American people have become. Not only have they (we, you) become the rude, brash, loud, obnoxious, embarrassment known around the world , but here at home too.
I once thought that it was just the cit-idiots, flatlanders, city slickers, whatever one wants to call them who were these rude vile people, but it's even worse here, in our own community, in God's country.
No doubt my comment will make some here happy with glee, others will point their fingers at me accusing me of one thing or another, or worse, of being like you.
Hey!!! But remember one thing,
Merry Christmas to all of the mean, mad, angry, Bigots in our lovely community.
Like the old saying, a Few Bad Apples......

RIP Mr Bush, and Thank You for everything you gave

Seeing a history of HW showed his early heroic service, after that ,oil dominated his time, then he started in office as a Congressman, then diplomat under Nixon, then under Reagan,an ambassador with a stint as party chairman. He danced around all the illegalities of Nixon (Watergate) and Reagan (Iran Contra) . He had an uncanny ability to skate away from these national disgraces, while inside the party, quite a feat.

Sorry, Pilgrim, but the whole earth is God's country. Nothing special about Calaveras County except the bigots are more easily identified and less embarrassed by their bigotry.

And, FWIW, my guess is that the rude, hate-filled comments posted on thepinetree are mostly from long time residents, not newcomers.
