Ebbetts Pass Fire District Needs Your Help Deciding Our Future

Arnold, CA...Ebbetts Pass Fire District Needs Your Help Deciding Their Future. December 11th at 6pm, Independence Hall in White Pines. EPFD is funded, in part, by two special taxes that enable us to provide top notch FIRE and EMS services. The first special tax was voted on and passed in 1998. This provided additional staffing as a paramedic within the District 24/7/365. The second was voter approved in 2004. Which funded extra staffing and one full-time, paramedic staffed ambulances and a second full-time staffed fire station.

EPFD Ambulance transport is available to residents, at no of out-of-pocket charge, to this day. Our increased personnel has allowed us to achieve the highly sought after designation of ISO CLASS 2 fire department. This is only achieved by the top 2% of all fire departments nation wide!

The Problem: The two taxes were flat fees with no increases. Each was designed to fund its program for a period of 10 years. The District, through several cost saving measures, has been able to stretch these funds to last 15 and 20 years. The special tax budget for this year was 400k short with no capital outlay!

Questions to ask yourself: Do you know that living within an ISO Class 2 rated Fire District can save you hundreds of dollars on homeowners insurance as well as making more insurance carriers available?

Do you take comfort in knowing that when you call 911, Paramedics are just minutes away from you and your loved ones?

Do you know that if one our residents or their family member needs an ambulance transport to the hospital, we provide it with no out-of-pocket expense?

Do you take pride and security in having your local Fire District at its current level?

Do you want to keep your local emergency services at or above the current level?

Please join us and our Board of Directors at our Town Hall/Public Hearing as we work together to reach a solution!

Oliveira does not lie. Callaway does not like firefighters or law enforcement. She has alot to prove due to her checkered past record. She had better fund these essential services or just get out.

First of all we are not getting any kind of a free service besides what our taxes pay the bill the insurance companies what the insurance company don’t pay they pick up so there is no way they should be short on funds

Wrong. We must fund fire services through taxes. No increase in taxes? Better think about this the next time someone has a heart attack and each second counts.

Agree 100%! No questions asked, just take their word for it and vote YES. EPFD provides a critical service to us and needs to have the latest and best equipment possible. Approve whatever they ask for.

Do you know that I am on a fixed income and can't afford any more taxes than I am paying now unlike some of these rich seniors who live in the Ebbetts Pass Fire District and can afford two homes and pay tax increases.

Maybe go listen to the presentation before deciding. Having a fire department with an ISO Class 2 rating helps lower the cost of insurance and improves the chance of companies continuing to insure us. Lose that rating and even more insurance companies will be refusing to cover property in this area.

Fire Department should be about FIRE!
Posted on: 2018-11-27 16:51:46   By: Anonymous

Interesting, look at all the people here pleading for this service for their helpless elderly selves . Are they finally now realizing that they will most likely suffer the same fate as the town of Paradise, CA.?. Or is it they are so elderly and ill they need this fast medical response daily? Do they realize that in the probable big fire even this medical transport is not going to be enough?

Elderly or medically dependent should never be living in the CA. forest, especially in today's world. Is it so financially important (taxes) to our county fathers to say nothing and turn a blind eye to the inevitable horror that is going to happen there? Especially now, would not those running our county realize that Ebbet's Pass, CA. is exactly like Paradise, CA.? Throwing all this money at home medical aid and transport will not save you in a big forest fire.

None of these elderly Bay Area Transplants trying to create their own elite enclave in the Calaveras County Sierra have any common sense, if they did they would be living in San Andreas close to the hospital.

When the big fire happens in Ebbett's Pass, even the world wide 747 Supertanker Jet will not be able to save you. The Phos-Chek fire retardant will not be reaching your home because it will just be sitting on top of trees, they are too massive and thick in the area.

The rest of us taxpayers in this county should not be financing in any way this irresponsible and arrogant run to the inevitable outcome of natural selection!

Dam, the above statement is spot on!!!!! You put a 40 MPR wind in any direction and we are doomed. Our taxes pay a good part of this. The EMT part is priority in my eyes. They are phenomenal, seen in live action multiple times. I ask for fire breaks to be cut around us to at least, slow it down. What ever it takes, cut a serious path and give us a chance to hall ass!!!!!!!

You do realize that EPFD is a Special District and not a County run department don't you? It's run by a Board of Directors and a large part of their funding comes from special district tax assessments which are voted on and paid by the residents of the district (not the entire county). Funding also comes from a share of property taxes, paid by the residents of the district, calculated in the same manner as any other district. This is not about a large forest fire. It's about day to day operations - house fires, vehicle accidents, unforeseen injuries, and yes, medical aid and transport for the young and old alike! Without the special district tax assessments EPFD would not be able to operate at the same excellent level of service they provide. If you don't live in the district then you don't have to worry about paying extra so that we can continue to have an awesome fire department. It's up to the local residents who appreciate and benefit from having one of the best departments in the state.

EPFD are great people who really care, but sadly for locals Merit calloway got really lucky by getting her Murphys voters and ultra liberal backing to get her elected.
She lost 4 years ago because her lack of caring for locals and lack of support for many local municipalities like our FD.

The problem with Calaveras isn't the hard working the people who work in law enforcement or the fire dept, its who they have to answer to.
Reap what you sow, don't vote in socialists nut jobs who would rather spend our tax money on more legislation hurting small business and supporting pot farms.

Dont you enjoy all the new homeless population on the highway as of late?
Get a police scanner and take a listen, they are breaking into peoples property weekly now.

You are going to get taxed out of your freedoms now, just like the bay area.
Within ten years it will be too expensive to live in Arnold.

Funny how lib's from the Dem stronghold of San Fran feel they are being overtaxes, over legislated and pushed out.
So they move, then try to install the SAME LAWS AND RULES that pushed them out in the first place.

      Idiots.

Actually I did know about the rising of crime. Even though Michael Oliveira said it is down.

I’m also aware that he has said he has given more funding to fire departments. Why is the one in his district suffering along with a cut in the Sherriffs budget?
