And BTW, Paradise is at about 1800 ft. There are trees but it is not burning because no one logged it.

Geez. The ignorance on this site...
Paradise is not a heavily wooded area - it sits atop a ridge, which makes it prone to being hit by wind storms. It’s actually less “wooded” than Arnold.
The fire was started by a downed PG & E power line in the Feather River Canyon. PG & E was supposed to be shutting down the power ahead of the wind storm, but never did it. The line hit dry brush and quickly went out of control.

Duh. Because it's everywhere. Is PG&E responsible for taking down ALL the dry brush and reducing the foothills and beyond to desert? Climate change, dry fuel, lack of rain and the fact that so many people live in rural America and places without adequate exit roads. Who is "they" in your book?

I should have also added the wind. Which is why PG&E and CalFire were already on alert, sending out phone msgs about potentially turning off power, etc. This is a highly critical time right now with all the factors playing in to potential fires.

Not blaming PG&E and in general just go back and look at historical figures on our fires. Almost all the mega fires have been after we stopped doing timber harvests in the forests in the 1980s. Since the 80s it has been a straight march to crowded unmanaged forests.

Yes there is drought, climate change, etc. We can't easily fix that but we can change fuel loads.

Take a look around Calaveras. You don't have to go far - note the large areas of land and ranches just off of Routes 4 & 49. Wouldn't the owner be responsible for removing the overgrown Star Thistle, the abandoned and falling down buildings, the dry brush, the fallen oaks? Most important, no large sections of gravel and defensible space. Heck, even the (county) area around Animal Services and the new jail is filled with dry brush and weeds. Easy to blame PG&E but it's not a stretch to see for whatever reasons a lot of local property has fallen into disrepair and all but tinder for the next fire.
