San Andreas Rotary Donates $5,000 to Support "Meals on Wheels"

San Andreas Rotary presents a check for $5,000 to CGSS (Common Ground Senior Services) to benefit their "Meals on Wheels Program" for Calaveras County. Accepting the donation is Kathi Toepel & Elizabeth Thompson.

San Andreas Rotary started with several informal meetings letting the community know that we wanted to start a club. Many community members agreed that this would be the perfect fit. We chartered our club on July 10th 2017. We then needed to search for a place to meet. We finally landed at the Calaveras County Historical Museum in the old Court House and are still meeting there today on Wednesday at 11:30. We are an active group of men and women who want to serve our community and the world around us.

Once had the opportunity to go on a "ride along" with a Meals on Wheels deliverer and write an article about the experience. This is such a wonderful program - yes, the meals, but also some days these are the only visitors a shut-in senior may have. Fortunate to have such services and dedicated staff and volunteers in our area.

I completely agree. Such a valuable program for our senior citizen community. I still cant believe that Clyde Clapp tried to block funding to this organization over some ridiculous personal agenda. Truly despicable...

Where is Clyde Clapp? I thought he is responsible for all the good Meals on Wheels does. Who are these peons?

Good people working hard for our Community!

This is an example of what our community SHOULD be doing. And they don't get recognized enough or paid for the time they spend above and beyond what the public see. The money they receive from fund raisers go back into the community to help those that need it. Some of the comments made here hurtful and uncalled for. The back stabbing and name calling is sad. I say keep up the good work! And thank you!

Well said. Rotary is an amazing organization and our local Rotary Clubs are made up of amazing individuals. This club also gave $5,000 to the newly formed CASA program for Foster Children in our county and now I hear they are planning a Cajun Festival in March to benefit Hospice. I love their motto, "Service Above Self", if only we could all be so noble. Thank you Rotarian's and all the other service clubs in our county.
