Yosemite National Park Announces an Evacuation has been Issued for Employees and Residents in Yosemite Valley

Yosemite, CA...Yosemite Valley and other impacted areas of the park will remain closed through Sunday, August 5 due to the Ferguson Fire. An evacuation has been issued for employees and residents inside Yosemite Valley due to limited road access to and from Yosemite Valley. This is due to firefighters working along the roadways and multiple hazards along El Portal Road, Big Oak Flat Road, and Wawona Road. Yosemite Valley and all associated features and facilities are NOT THREATENED by the Ferguson Fire at this time.

Access to Yosemite Valley is closed through Sunday. This includes El Portal Road (Highway 140), Wawona Road (Highway 41), and Big Oak Flat Road (Highway 120 West), inside the park between the Big Oak Flat Entrance and Crane Flat Junction and from Crane Flat Junction to Yosemite Valley). These closures may be extended or change based on current conditions.

Yosemite National Park remains open from Highway 120 East via U.S. 395. Tioga Road remains open from Tioga Pass to Crane Flat. All trails, campgrounds, and facilities along Tioga Road remain open, including Tuolumne Meadows Campground, the Tuolumne Meadows Store, and the High Sierra Camps.

Yosemite Valley has been temporarily closed since July 25 due to smoke impacts and for firefighting operations due to the Ferguson Fire.

Since the Ferguson Fire began on Friday, July 13, several other park facilities and roads have been closed due to fire impacts and the need to support firefighting operations. These closures include Glacier Point Road, Bridalveil Creek Campground, Tamarack Campground, Wawona Campground, and the Merced Grove of Giant Sequoias.

Yosemite National Park continues to work closely with the Incident Management Team and continues to assess park conditions daily. For current fire information, please visit https://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/5927/.

For updated 24-hour road and weather conditions for Yosemite National Park, please call 209-372-0200, press 1 and press 1 again. Updated information is also available on the park’s website at www.nps.gov/yose and on the Yosemite National Park Facebook page.
