Adventist Health Sonora Recognized with Performance Excellence Awards

Sonora, CA...This week the Collaborative Alliance for Nursing Outcomes (CALNOC) announced that Adventist Health Sonora is being recognized with Performance Excellence Awards for Best Performance in Preventing Hospital Acquired Pressure Ulcers and Best Performance in Preventing Hospital Acquired Infections – MRSA Total Facility.

Adventist Health Sonora has been recognized with these awards for achieving zero hospital-acquired methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) bloodstream infections and zero hospital-acquired pressure ulcers in 2017.
“By using evidence-based processes such as screening certain patient populations upon admission, initiating contact precautions for anyone with active MRSA infection, and utilizing a robust hand-hygiene program, we have been able to safeguard our patients from acquiring MRSA bloodstream infections in the hospital,” Marti Carter, R.N., director of quality at Adventist Health Sonora explains. “I am proud of the teamwork that has led to such great outcomes for our patients.”

Lisa Wooldridge, R.N., who serves as the wound care coordinator at Adventist Health Sonora, also credits teamwork for Adventist Health Sonora’s success in preventing pressure ulcers. “We have a fantastic group of caring, compassionate nurses who make sure our patients’ skin stays healthy,” Wooldridge explains. “Adventist Health Sonora has taken an aggressive approach with prevention. All mattresses have pressure redistribution properties and patients are assessed and monitored for their level of risk of developing pressure ulcers.” Patients identified with a moderate risk level are given a head-to-toe assessment and the wound care team provides ongoing education, working closely with staff in the medical/surgical units and transitional care unit to aid in preventing pressure ulcers.

CALNOC will be hosting their annual conference in October when Adventist Health Sonora will be formally presented with these awards.
