A Guide to Hiking Trails at Big Trees State Park

Arnold, CA...For all trails, it is recommended to carry water, sunscreen, insect repellent, and a light snack. Remember to Leave No Trace: pack it in, pack it out! Good hiking shoes or boots are important, especially for more difficult trails:

North Grove: An easy walking loop trail, just under two miles long. Allow 1 to 2 hours.

Grove Overlook: A short, moderately rugged trail that extends from the North Grove up the hillside. Allow 1 to 2 hours.

River Canyon Trail: A more strenuous four-mile hike (8 miles round-trip) from the North Grove to the River Picnic Area, via the Scenic Overlook. Allow 4 to 5 hours.

Lava Bluffs: A moderately strenuous 2.5 mile lollipop loop trail over rugged terrain. Beware of poison oak. Allow 2 to 3 hours.

Bradley Grove: A moderate 2.5 mile loop trail highlighting a grove of young Giant Sequoia planted in the 1950s. Allow 2 to 3 hours.

South Grove: A moderate 5 mile (round-trip) hike with optional loop. Features the largest tree in the park. Allow 3 to 4 hours.

Meadow Boardwalk: A short, easy, beautiful walk in the middle of the North Grove campground!

Leftist Lunatics

It's nice that Big Trees is raising money for improving trails. This allowed me to buy that big dance floor stump and have it moved to Marin where I'm building my new game room for the house.

I wish you said something about a month ago, I would of had a beautiful mount for your game room. I've lost 5 goats and finally shot the predator that killed for fun, three and I guess ate the other two. I popped him with a .22 at 20 yards, thankfully it was a good clean shot almost dead center in the ear and the .22 did not exit, but he was a big cat, and now is feeding worms. The night scope is worth 10 times what the .22 is, but for me, it just paid for it self. Those are my babies he was killing.

Big Trees State Park is one of the best things in our county. We should all treasure it, enjoy it and protect it.

No! Sell it to the Japanese, and build a Hello Kitty theme park there.
