A Bit of Wisdom From "Silent Cal"

“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.” ― Calvin Coolidge 1872 - 1933

Silent Cal should have stayed silent rather than make such a stupid comment. Persistence is certainly a helpful trait but in the absence of talent, education and/or genius (and ambition, I'd add) it will leave you flipping burgers your whole life.

In today's world the most reliable thing you can do for yourself to get ahead is get a good education. Get as much as you have the brains and money for. And then put it to use doing something you enjoy that also pays well.

Sigh, Well in the defense of John. Cal was certainly less racist than progressive darling Woodrow Wilson. If you doubt me look it up

I agree with much of what you wrote ( kinda scary considering this is thepinetree) but one also has to remember those days were so much different then today's world and how we go about things.

The problem for the last 40+ years , is the Oligarchy has been persistent.
Your ideas don't have to be good for the 99% as long as you can buy the politicians, and purchase their votes against the 99%.
You can buy the media, and con many with the big lies of the Oligarchy.
All you have to be is well funded , and be persistent.

It is up to us to counter the monopolies, and other plans of the Oligarchy .
If we don't it's game over (nearly so now) .
        It is our choice
        All it takes is consciousness.
