Should Angels Camp Place a Cannabis Business Tax on November Ballot?

Angels Camp, CA...This Tuesday, May 1st at 6;00 pm at Bret Harte Theater, the city council has to vote on agenda item 7c, whether to put a ballot measure on the November 6, 2018 election asking voters to establish a business license tax on the gross receipts of cannabis businesses, if such businesses are permitted, in an amount not to exceed 15%. See attachment.

Cannabis is presently banned through an interim urgency measure we voted on last November, and we have to vote to make the urgency measure permanent, banning cannabis, or extend the urgency measure before November 12, or vote on a completely different ordinance before November 12, possibly allowing cannabis businesses.

I plan to ask staff why they recommend we vote at this time to put this tax measure on the November ballot rather than wait until we vote on a permanent ordinance. There could be some legal or sensible reason. I will be asking questions about the need and the timing.

You might want to attend the meeting to hear the explanation and express your opinion.

Best Regards,
Linda Hermann

Note: Maryjane business is NOT legal in the city. Every adult 21 and over is allowed 6 plants each and that's it. You need to get your facts right.

Is there going to be a category for best cannabis at the county fair this year? Now that cannabis is leagal in the state and Calaveras is supposedly a wonderful growing environment, it seems it would be a natural fit for competition at the fair. Maybe at least two categories, best indica, best sativa.

Maybe they should have tasting rooms for sampling cannabis and Angels Camp could become a mecca for Cannabis? Tax it 8-10% and we would have a win win for the City of Angels Camp! Enjoy.
Then we could have bike paths along highway 49 for our children to have a safe passage to school.

I came here to die

It is what happens if you cater to retirement community. They just come here to die. "Always wanted to live in the Mountains/" The influx does not care about anything else.

Importance is law enforcement of the fallout of the casinos to the South. It may take the locals to help enforce the laws. No Native American Casino has been a good thing for any county it is put in. And as seen here it is a fallout into a neighboring more quite and more gullible community. Time to make the Native Americans responsible for themselves, just like everyone else.

Looks like they learned something from the county. Let the voters decide! Also, are deliveries not a taxable business? The current ordinence allows deliveries. After this is done maybe the city can give the voters of sensible ordinance to vote on as well.

marijuana tax?

Sounds like approval of pot business has already been decided. So now they're going to turn career criminals and scofflaws into model tax-paying citizens with the stroke of a pen? And unicorn poop tastes like Skittles.

Keep turning that blind eye. Now that the state has completely legalized it, turning your blind eyes only delays inevitable regulation. With regulation comes funds to enforce and add to city projects. Bans (Angels Camp doesn't have a ban BTW) don't work, they just push things underground.
