Please join us at 6:00 PM tonight at the Ebbetts Pass Fire Station on Blagen Road. We’ll meet in the training room, accessed from the rear parking lot.

Will there be minutes of this meeting posted somewhere? Or better, a video recording?

This is an important set of topics for those of us living in Arnold, but I and I'm sure others can not make it there on such short notice.

A few thoughts: The many empty stores is really a downer in terms of Arnold being perceived as a place for tourists. That's hardly news, but maybe there can be an effort to use some of the places as an art gallery for local artists with rent shared among them and ideally locked pretty low for a few years to get things established. After all, those spaces are earning no rent at present. I don't think the town will support more restaurants of the types we already have (Chinese, hamburgers, sandwiches) but I think there could be a market for another upscale restaurant or mid-priced ethnic restaurants (Indian, non-Chinese Asian, Cuban/Caribbean, maybe others). Most of the latter are not available in Murphys or Angels Camp, so you might bring people up the hill to get them if quality was good. And tourists from the Bay Area are not going to be put off by price.

Anyway, thanks to those working on this problem. Let us know how the discussion goes.

Sorry I will not be able to attend the meeting, but just wanted to share a thought. I have been a resident of Arnold for 18 years and have seen many restaurants and businesses come and go. If there is a potential restaurant business person out there considering Arnold one of the types of eating establishments I haven't seen tried (at least in my time living here) is a traditional Ice Cream Shop that not only sells ice cream, but smoothies, etc. (the menu could be changed to focus more on hot items during the winter months). I know we have a coffee shop in town that does sell some ice cream, but I'm thinking something more focused on Ice Cream centrally located like at the Cedar Center which is the gathering site for so many during the summer for concerts, car shows, craft fairs, etc. Murphys, Copper & Angels Camp all have traditional Ice Cream Shops. Maybe it's time for Arnold to have one too?

We had one in Cameo Plaza for a long time. You haven't heard the news that there won't be any concerts in Cedar Center this summer. Sorry to be the one to tell you.

How will a Twenty year old community plan from 1998 benefit the area? What a genius idea from the boneheads. Get with the program!

Charge Renters!

Make the people who rent out their cabins PAY fees to this County for the traffic, wear and tear in the County ...they collect rents and don’t want to pay the County fees for their extra income!

Traffic is a mess on weekends. But Big Trees Market and other businesses are jammed too. Overall, those tourists keep Arnold from being a complete ghost town.

In the end even the worst traffic does not waste even 15 minutes of my day.

I'd be a customer for sure, esp. if prices were comparable to Arnold Chinese.

Maybe Arnold Business Assoc. can put together a group of local investors willing to help finance new businesses they evaluate as viable. If there were real due diligence done, I'd be a potential investor.

Do they do this now? Market analysis, vetting of potential owners?

Owners decide!
Posted on: 2018-04-23 10:50:34   By: Anonymous

Owners decide what type of business to open and what prices to charge, let the free market work, no need for others who have no Investment in a given business to second guess it! Also, nosey people who try to tell others what kind of business they “should” operate are KILLING this area, no one wants to deal with the jerks who think they know better!

Yes! Like the Blackbear Inn people who tell others what they should do... don’t see them opening up Their grounds for concerts....they need to mind their own business, we could have had a great Mexican restaurant in town...

The people at Black Bear Inn, do an incredible service to our
community..Not only that, but bring tax revenue to our
county..Too bad our Supervisor won't acknowledge that, he
being the one looking to raise the tax on tourist stays!

They should pay! And they should keep their nose out other businesses! They try to tell others what type of restaurant they should run! Snobs!

What are you talking about? No one is suggesting that anyone be controlled in terms of what business they open. We are just sharing our two cents on what kind of business would succeed in Arnold. If someone wants to open a bowling alley instead, no one is going to stop them.

You seem uninformed on how successful businesses typically begin. A first step is to collect information on whether there is a customer base for such a business. This PineTree thread is hardly a substitute for that, but it provides some hints to anyone thinking of opening a business. This is how free markets work. You know, in the real world.

I agree with owners deciding, makes more sense. Look back, remember before GABA....when businesses did MUCH better without all of the interferences and PHONY know-it-all’s....seems like a well intentioned group has become too big headed.

Beautiful graphic. But no place like that exists in Arnold. That's a huge misrepresentation of the town, except for the one remaining meadow.
