Robert “Bob” White, Veteran, Musician & More Passed Away on April 16

Murphys, CA...Robert “Bob” White of Murphys, CA, passed away peacefully at home on April 16, 2018, after a short illness. He was a retired furniture salesman, having been employed by Breuner’s in San Carlos, CA for 21 years. Born in Seattle, WA, he was the son of Elizabeth McRae of Edinburgh, Scotland, and Michael White of London, England, who had met and married in Seattle. Bob was a talented musician, playing saxophone and clarinet with dance bands at the Trianon and other nightspots in Seattle in his youth. He joined the US Coast Guard towards the end of World War II and was stationed in San Francisco with the Coast Guard Band, greeting troop ships as they returned to the Bay.

In 1989, upon retirement, Bob and his wife, the late Patricia Morton White, left San Mateo to relocate to Murphys, there joining the First Congregational Church. Bob enjoyed swimming, walking, gardening, and took up painting, especially seascapes, as a hobby. He became a noted local artist, and some of his works are displayed in the Burnaby Museum in Burnaby, British Columbia.

After the death of his wife Patricia, Bob married Margaret Lulofs. He put aside his painting and resumed playing the sax and enjoying music, especially jazz. Bob and Margaret enjoyed 12 happy years together.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Dave, his wife Patricia, and his stepsons, Houston Morton and Larry Lulofs. Survivors include his wife Margaret, his stepsons Michael Morton, Timothy Lulofs, William Lulofs and stepdaughter Nancy Walker, as well as grandchildren and nephews.

A celebration of Bob’s life will take place on Saturday, May 5, 2018, at 11:00 a.m., at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, located at 496 Church St. in Murphys. Memorial gifts in Bob’s name may be made to First Congregational United Church of Christ, or “FCCM”, PO Box 48, Murphys, CA 95247, notated for “Music”; or Hospice of the Sierra, 20100 Cedar Road North, Sonora, CA 95370.
