Another Threatening Email Sent to Schools Likely a Hoax

San Andreas, CA...The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office was notified by the Mark Twain School District that another threatening email had been received last night by district staff. Although the Sheriff’s Office, treats and investigates every threat seriously and independently; the FBI has already sent notification to local law enforcement that this latest email is likely a hoax from the same group that sent emails on Monday 4-9-18.

On the evening of April 12th 2018, several law enforcement agencies in California have already reported that school districts within their jurisdictions received emails stating “a male student will be sent into your campus as you start the day, he will look normal but what is in his bag is a bomb.” The email goes on to say that if the school is placed on lockdown, the male student will set off the bomb. The email contains a link to a photo of a device composed of a plastic bottle full of liquid, with black tape and wires attached and says “Find me #apophissquad.” The email indicates that the explosive in the plastic bottles is ANFO, a very powerful explosive.

ApophisSquad, the same group that sent threatening emails – which have since been deemed a hoax - to school districts across the nation on April 9th, leading to evacuations and lockdowns at several schools in California, claimed responsibility for this latest round of emails this evening on their new Twitter page. They posted, “Tango down ~ U.S. + UK Schools We are Apophis Squad and we are HERE to stay! We 100% going dark now….Hope the U.S. and UK enjoy it, if we get arrested then oops we must of messed up at some point….” Their previous Twitter page was shut down after they referenced school lockdowns because of the emails they sent on April 9th.

AdophisSquad claimed credit for hoax bomb threats in the UK last month and posted a tweet on March 19th saying, “We hope everyone in the UK enjoyed our email. Thanks to all who participated in this event.” ApophisSquad claims to be a “Team of people running around the internet” according to their Twitter page.
