Victory for Bret Harte JV Girls and Varsity Boys Basketball Teams Tonight~ By Bethany Monk (Updated with Video)
Angels Camp, C.A....The Bret Harte gymnasium in Angels Camp was packed with fans of the county's two rival teams tonight in anticipation of the last game of the basketball season, which saw victory for both the Bret Harte JV girls and varsity boys basketball teams....
It was a good night for the Bret Harte JV girls who squashed CHS 47-22. The Bret Harte varsity boys did well with a 35-25 win against the CHS varsity boys.
The game got intense during the third quarter when CHS trailed Bret Harte by only one point moving from 23-24 to 24-25. Branden Schlaht, Bret Harte player number 15, got the game going again when he made a free throw and brought Bret Harte's score to 33 late in the third quarter.
"They kind of shut down Bret (Downey, Bret Harte player #40)," Schlaht said of CHS "collapsing on (Bret). So we had to find other ways to score points tonight."
Although the CHS varsity boys didn't win the game, their coach, Kraig Klifton said he was "especially pleased with their defense and press break" tactics.
