1-Day Open Door Shelter for Horses - Free Surrender Day Today

Plymouth, CA...Horse Plus Humane Society will be holding a 1-Day Open Door Shelter for Horses at the Amador County Fairgrounds in Plymouth, CA. just outside of Sacramento. Horse Plus Humane Society already has 95 horses pre-registered to be surrendered and are expecting that number to be doubled from horses who are not pre-registered. “Horse Plus Humane Society is committed to humane and ethical prevention of abuse and suffering of horses. Since 2016 Horse Plus Humane Society has offered 1-Day Open Door Shelters throughout the United State to give horse owners the option to surrender their horse at no cost. All surrendered horses will be evaluated for quality of life and suitability of finding a new home. Adoptable horses are placed into adoption programs with approved adoption partners throughout the country. To date, 404 horses have been helped through this program.” Tawnee Preisner, President of Horse Plus Humane Society. 1-Day Open Door Shelter for Horses - Free Surrender Day. Sunday, February 25th 2018 - 10:00am - 5:00pm. Amador County Fairgrounds, 18377 Empire St, Plymouth, CA - Follow the signs.

Background Information
Horse Plus Humane Society, based in Hohenwald, TN., offers 1-Day Open Door Shelters for Horses throughout the United States. 1-Day Open Door Shelters give horse owners the option to surrender their horse with no cost to them. No horse will be refused, no matter its condition, age, training level or preexisting medical conditions. The 1-Day Open Door Shelter for Horses has three specific goals, each of which furthers Horse Plus Humane Society’s mission of reducing suffering of horses and other members of the equine family. 1: Providing a humane option for horse owners who can no longer keep their horses. 2: Help adoptable horses find their right home.
3: Prevent needless suffering of horses that need end-of-life services.

This does not surprise me.You see these people wanting to play cowboy and those ugly old women with their long gray hair most can't take care of themselves and they STINK like their horses.

Despite many of the comments above, this is a very good thing and a fine organization. Too many locals have been in over their heads financially these past few years and others take on a horse thinking a little grass in their patch of yard will do. Many have ended up at our local animal shelter which is understaffed and underfunded as it for the care of mere cats and dogs much less livestock. Thank you, Horse Plus Humane Society, for taking on this challenge and helping these animals find new homes.
