What's New at Mark Twain St. Josephs Hospital? Our Quarterly Chat with Larry Cornish~By John Hamilton

San Andreas, CA...We had the great pleasure to spend a few minutes with Mark Twain St. Joseph's Healthcare System's Development Director, Larry Cornish. When we last spoke ,MTSJ had just finished up with their inaugural Teddy Bear Clinic they held last fall for the local school children. It has been a busy Quarter for them. They were recently named the 2007 Business of the Year by the Calaveras Chamber of Commerce. Their Angels Camp Family Practice Center has just finished it's renovations and much more...

Larry also mentioned that for the first time since he can remember the hospital is fully staffed with no open positions in the nursing department. They have had a great quarter in recruiting in other departments as well.

They have participated in emergency preparedness drills in conjunction with the County Health Department. These drills help them plan for possible infections disease outbreaks and natural disasters.

It is apparent that Hospital President Feliciano Jiron is having a very positive affect on hospital and it's health-care system in the county. In addition to the improvements at the hospital Mr. Jiron is also working to improve the business climate in the entire county through his involvement with the new Calaveras County Business Council.

Mark Twain is also working to let the youth of the area know what jobs may be available for them in the health care field locally. It is MTSJ's hope that many of them would view a career in health care a great career choice and also one they could pursue close to home.

For some reason the first minute of our taping had audio problems so our interview starts right after our introductions and just where we start talking about the hospital being honored as business of the year. Our interview runs about 25 minutes. We hope you enjoy it and this is a quarterly program to let you know what is happening in your local and award winning healthcare system.
