Supervisor Michael Oliveira Announces His Re-Election Campaign

Arnold, CA...Michael Oliveira announces his re-election campaign for Supervisor, Third District, of Calaveras County. Since his election in 2014, Supervisor Oliveira has dealt with several critical issues within the County, such as lack of law enforcement personnel, disintegrating infrastructure, and natural disasters. His dedication to serving the community is shown by his service in the Marine Corps, his years spent as a police officer in the Bay Area and many more years working as a Deputy (three of them with zero compensation). He continues to devote himself to our community and shows his willingness to listen to the constituents, represent their desires at Board meetings, and improve the quality of life in Calaveras County.

With these points in mind, Mr. Oliveira has three topics he would like to concentrate on in the upcoming term—public safety, quality growth, and improving the framework (Infrastructure) that our County relies on.
Supervisor Oliveira has also been vocal about the matter of cannabis cultivation—let the voters decide. Since legalization in the State of California, Calaveras County’s position has been a frequent topic in the news. The County passed an ‘Urgency Ordinance” that allowed for registration of potential cultivation. This allowed cultivators to grow until a permanent vote could take place.

The recent election within the County has shown that citizens do not want grows or sales strictly for commercial cultivation, and they are concerned about a possible increase in crime. However, monies collected from this legalization have been earmarked for increased deputy sheriff presence, and to fund enforcement/inspection personnel. We are now subject to lawsuits from existing cultivators, and litigation is expected to reach an all time high. Supervisor Oliveira is the only one that has been involved in this process for the last three years. His knowledge and background is critical in moving forward.

Accomplishments over the last three and a half years include:
• increased deputy sheriff patrol in District 3, as well as improving officer and public safety by swapping out aged patrol cars in the Sheriff’s fleet.
• revised the General Plan to more clearly define the vision of the County (had not been reviewed in over 20 years). It will serve as our guide and will detail County residents’ values. The plan is vital for land use, conservation, housing and our ideas for the future
• worked closely with the Federal Emergency Management Agency to insure the maximum amount of resources (financial and consulting) are provided to the County to restore the quality of life that has been lost due to several recent disasters (fires, floods, matter of tree mortality).

Michael Oliveira has shown that he cares about the community in which he serves. He has accomplished a lot in less than four years as a County supervisor, and he has many goals for the next term.

More information on Supervisor Oliveira can be found on his website: www.michaeloliveiraforsupervisor.com. The site includes a calendar of upcoming events, and position regarding matters important to the County, and biographical data.

Letting the people decide? Oliveira voted AGAINST putting the UO on the ballot, voted AGAINST putting Measure C on the ballot, and voted AGAINST putting the recall of Kearney on the ballot. This guy doesn't want the public to vote on anything... except during an election year.

Ed Langan was Mills campaign consultant. He got paid $1800 to inflict Mills on the County. Now Mills is using his office to try and get Langan elected. The emails between Mills and LaGuardia, St. John, and Mills repeated calls for a candidate to replace Mike are shameful. If Mills was smart he’d resign.

Without them, we wouldn’t have a sour pickle jar.....just go away and let the little growers do their “6” plants. PLEASE

She's better than Oliveira but to be fair I wouldn't say she knows how to get things done. We still ran a deficit under her leadership. Don't get me wrong, Merita is a wonderful person and definitely cares about our community but like the rest of us, she doesn't walk on water.

Of course not - it takes a village (not to mention a fully functioning board). I will say, though, that she responds to concerns by phone or email - even holds regular "office" hours in the community - which is more than we've had in recent years.

Nope. No way, Callaway. Anyone who can't put together a General Plan in 22 years, but who will force through a permit for a Dispensary in the wrong zone, in a second story building without ADA access in record time, then try to foist the calamitous Measure D on us, does not have our best interests at heart.

LOL! The news link on his website says "Cannibus Vote to Ban 010918". The guy doesn't even know how to spell what he's voting on... or rather refusing to vote on and letting the ban folks have their way. Thanks for not seconding the motion Mike! Why didn't Mike vote for the regulation at the January mtg? My understanding:
100 acre minimum was equivalent to a ban
the decision needs to be with the voting public: 2 initiatives . . . one to regulate and one to ban.
Why didn't Mike vote for the UO? Because it did not take into consideration the requests of the SO; it allowed growers in residential zoning; he did not feel it was a good 'solution' (short-term or otherwise) for the county.

Anyone else notice that it took an election year to have town hall meetings? That Arnold crime meeting would never have happened if it wasn't an election year.

Exactly. The entire Sheep Ranch Road neighborhood (and make no mistake, we are) knows that you did not respond to multiple requests about needed repairs on our road.

The RIM fee has a $10,000,000 balance. That money is designated to repair Sheep Ranch Road, Avery Sheep Ranch, and Moran Road in District 3. Oliveira is too incompetent to actually put the money to use and fix our roads!

Fix sheep ranch road really, it would break the county you dumb asses. Maybe all of you that have moved up here to escape the city to live on Sheep Ranch road should take your tax payer dollar back to where ever you came from I'm a life long resident. What do you want sloped banks, 2 foot shoulders with proper drainage. Culverts in all the right places 2 inch asphalt base rock with proper compaction you live where you live if you don't like it move from Calabama back to Alabama. Kiss my ass good night.

Oliveira only lives here part time. Why don't you ask him about his primary residence at 669 Bridgewater Circle, Danville, CA 94526 if you are so concerned about how long people have lived here?

When's the last time you drove down it? All we're asking for is the giant potholes and crumbling shoulders get repaired. It's gotten really bad since it became the main road for heavy equipment and soil delivery to the growers in Mtn Ranch. Perhaps even the culvert gets dug out that floods the road. The road has never been more than a country road and many of us have lived here for decades. But nothing is kept up as it used to be, if only a bit of resurfacing.

Yes. Sheep Ranch Road is a mess. Also the bridge/culvert is still out on Murphys Drive, which comes off Moran Road near Pinebrook. That has been out since LAST winter and we all have to detour through Pinebrook. Some of those detour roads are now in disrepair due to the heavy traffic. It is ridiculous. Like we have no supervisor at all.

BTW, I gave the exact location so Mike could find it if he were inclined to actually do something or even find out what is going on in his district.

Dumbest thing I saw today was a pickup in Angels Camp. Had window stickers, one sticker was the confederate flag, the other was a Marine Corps sticker.. Only in Calaveras?

Did the pickup also have a Jesus fish on the tailgate? Was the left turn signal burned out? Details man! I need details! How can I possibly decide if I should vote for Mike or Merita without details of this pickup?!?!

There used to be that red Jeep in angels camp that had soaring eagle side back window panels and a conferderate flag in the back window with a wheel cover that had the American Flag with the caption “there’s only one” to whit I would always think “but not for lack of trying”

And then, of course, there's the sepia-toned one of a Native American chief that reads, "Trust the government."

I think the one that really sums up our great divide, however, reads, "If it's tourist season, why can't I shoot them?" Haven't seen that old pickup around since they closed down The Nugget.

Mr. Oliviera, are you reading this?

I’m a progressive Democrat. I believe that people over 21 should be able to smoke or use marijuana in any way they see fit.

Marijuana is not medication.

I don’t want my county turned into one giant, filthy, degrading commercial pot farm. The “farmers” are not being truthful (aka “lying”) about their stewardship of our precious county land, or their gross water usage, or their use and disposal of pesticide and fertilizers. They are not being truthful about job opportunities for the residents of out county-they hire migrant and transient workers for as little “under the table” money as possible.

I voted for Mr. Oliveira and I now regret it. Although I personally like Ms. Callaway, her pro-commercial marijuana stance will be disastrous for our county.

Mr. Oliveira, you deserve to lose the next BOS election to someone who actually cares about our county.

Under the state's regulation water and pesticides are monitored with inspections and water logs showing progress to use less water. The product is track and traced all the way to sale and tested for pesticides, then taxed. Marijuana is medicine, you just haven't looked into it.
