The 2018 Calaveras Sheriff's Race Is Underway

San Andreas, CA...On January 11th a good sized crowd was on hand at the San Andreas Town Hall as Gary Stevens officially launched his campaign for the top law enforcement job in Calaveras County. Gary L. Stevens, long time Calaveras County resident is running as candidate for Sheriff.

Stevens, 53, is a former Calaveras Deputy Sheriff and currently works as a District Attorney Investigator. He and his wife Nicki, and their son live in San Andreas. Stevens has been a peace officer for more than 27 years and cares deeply about Calaveras County, its citizens and our environment. To quote Stevens from his website...“There are many challenges facing the Calaveras Sheriff’s Office and Calaveras County a whole. One of the biggest concerns and overall challenges we are facing is the quality of life that we are losing." Stevens stated,” As your Sheriff, I want to restore and protect it”.

The office of Sheriff is elected to a four-year term, with the next term commencing in January, 2019. The election for the position Stevens seeks to fill, Sheriff of Calaveras County, will be held on June, 5, 2018.

You only want Rick because he caved to your side. If he was a man of his word he would have a lot more support. You can't sway which ever way the wind blows and keep support.

The sheriff is elected to serve the people by enforcing existing law. He (or she) cannot "decide" what the law should be based on personal opinion.

Where Did All The MM Fee $ Go?
Posted on: 2018-01-21 16:15:27   By: Anonymous

The current sheriff said in the BOS hearing the dept had spent all the 3 million+ set aside for abatement with only 50 abatements enforced. That's $60,000 per enforcement. With an estimated 400 illegal grows, and enforcement a very slow process, taking almost the Summer before a succession of enforcements, announced the question of management of the Sheriff's dept needs to be questioned.

I believe the current sheriff estimated the number of illegal cultivation sites at over a thousand with an "estimated" timeline of three to five years to close them all down. I doubt Mr. Stevens would do any better, or any worse. There actually isn't an articulated plan to remove the illegal grows from the county coming from the Board or the Sheriff. So if you're an illegal cultivator the welcome mat is out. Your chances of being closed down are about 5-10 percent. The chance you'll do a jail sentence....zero.

And that jail sentence for cultivators would be the District Attorneys job. The office where Mr. Stevens has been working as, of all things, an investigator.

I used to think grey meant wisdom before seeing the county's mariijuana ban crowd. The majority want our county to live in 1965 again and are going to turn us into a bible belt ghost town by pushing out the youth and any chances of new industry's.

A lot of folks around here seemed to have missed that elementary school lesson on plurals and apostrophes. Saw a new sign going up outside the Murphys Diggins mobile home park recently that initially had an apostrophe between the "y" and "s" in Murphys. Guess the grammar police called them on it pretty quickly because it was gone in a matter of days. Still, one had to wonder about the time and expense (and lack of proofreading prior) given it was done in metal.

Why Change What Isn't Broken?
Posted on: 2018-01-22 09:20:34   By: Anonymous

Rick DiB is an excellent sheriff. He has the support of county staff and more importantly he has the support of the SO staff and the enforcement officers.

He's personable. Responsible. Listens and acts. He's done an excellent job related to illegal mj grows, especially those indoors (the one's most difficult to identify and get a warrant on).

He continues to make changes for the better related to community services (like the parking space for Internet purchases). Little things many don't notice but are all directed at the safety of county residents.

This candidate might do a good job; he might not. We don't know. But we do know what type of administrator Rick is. We know he listens. We know he acts. Why would anyone want to change from something that is working very well to something they know nothing about?

The SO is not currently broken. Let's not take a chance and break it. Vote for Rick.

I don't mean to be derogatory, but from a physical fitness perspective, I put my faith in Rick. Ever stood next to him? He tall, and obviously works out at the gym in the SO on a regular basis.

Like with military recruits, let's put up an obstacle course and set these 2 men to compete each other thru it. Any bets on who would win??? I know where I'd put my $s and it's on the incumbent.

There used to be a day when you didn't have to look far to find fit people, young and old! Today, if you don't work a labor job your more than likely out of shape. The exception are those that have time to go to the gym. I can't believe how many times you see a shot of police officers that look like Homer Simpson! Where have the fitness requirements gone? Just like Title 9 PE, a total joke, most of the girls could whip most of the boys because # 1. Girls and boy's don't need to be doing PE together, PE isn't a social club, boy's need to be in the wrestling room learning how to be men, girl's doing what they do, but not together, it turns into grab ass, wouldn't most boy's love that! America, you have allowed the Snowflakes to dumb us down, this old grey hair will go down fighting!

A conservative can push any agenda they want in Calaveras right now. Saying that our county has lost quality of life due to weed growers just to get the seniors mail in vote is pretty slimey. Rick is doing just fine.
