Angels Camp, CA…. Today, more than 60 boats averaging 150 people participated in the annual Trout Fishing Derby at New Melones Lake in Angels Camp. The competition began at dusk (6am). Fishermen from all over Northern California came to compete for two titles and grand prizes. The two competitions were biggest stringer “The Biggest Fish” and top four, two fish stringers “Best of Two”....

Twelve year old Connor Mitchell from Kelsey California won the title for Biggest Fish and took home a check for $300.00. Connor’s fish weighed in at 3.98lbs and measured over 20 inches in length. “I have won many fishing competitions, but this is the first time I have won at this lake,” said winner Connor Mitchell.

Following the announcement for biggest fish was the next competition, the two fish stringer. Friends, Fred Nakagawa and Jorge Wheatly won the first place prize. “Our fish weighed in at 5.51 lbs,” said Fred. The winning weight for first, second, third, and forth places include: 1st Place 5.51lbs-$700.00, 2nd Place 5.34lbs- $500.00, 3rd Place 4.78lbs-$350.00, and 4th Place 4.33lbs-$250.00.

Glory Hole Sports would like to thank all of those who participated in the competition and who bought raffle tickets to help support a member’s granddaughter who is serving in Iraq.
