Nope. The cartel parties came in record numbers upon the UO. They are here because they can hide in plain sight. No one can take more credit for that than the "legal" growers. This is fact.

I agree. All the growers are incorrectly blaming and complaining about Tofanelli, Clapp, and Mills when in reality it was Oliveira and Garamendi that brought on the ban. Garamendi blew it with the parcel disagreement. Oliveira, not sure what he was thinking, nothing good, apparently. His little speech was pathetic and screamed of someone trying to save face and help his next election run. Tofanelli tried hard to get some regulations voted on. We could have regulation right now if was not for the poor decisions of two supervisors.

Thank goodness and to all for this result. At no time did the majority of Calaveras County want commercial marijuana. We didn't vote in Prop. 64 and we sure as heck didn't vote in any Supervisors now that are anything other than a ban. The medicinal is here. The individuals' rights to use recreationally is here. That was the original ask, wasn't it.

Doesn't really matter, there wasn't a now sue clause, the refund of fees is small potatoes, it is the cost of going to court that will bankrupt the county with no more revenue coming in. Thank the stooges for that.

Well we'll just legalize, regulate, and tax drunk drivers, illegal grows, home burglary's, stolen vehicles, drug dealers, meth addicts, and domestic abuse calls. Because these things are continue to occur even though they are illegal-so lets just make them legal like we tried to legalize pot. Then we can charge and tax for these acts, and give that money to the library and bicycle pathways.

Don't be so stupid, Mr. Whoe Nelli, had it all figured out before hand. He knew the ridicuous crap he proposed would not fly, he used M.O. and J.G. like pawns in a chess game. I really did not think he was that smart to manipulate so well, I was wrong. He has made it look like it is their fault to ban it and he was forced to vote the way he did. What a shark. Good luck Calaveras, you have the goodfellas running things.

This will give a new definition to the term "potholes" we have on our roads. Every time you hit a pothole, it will grow because our road dept is so great and over flowing with money as it is (and those guys always look like a bright and cheerful bunch) Just remember, don't swerve into on coming traffic, swerve off road into a tree, or someone walking on the shoulder.
We'll get more money when we figure who to tax. Maybe we'll just make it on all purchases so everyone shares instead of just a tax on those with property. I mean fair is fair. At least the value of illegal grown marijuana will go back up in price, so someone will make a profit like the state of Calif will.

So - just so I understand - big pharma okay including that little blue bill that keeps an old guy going long after it's natural. But, a plant that grows naturally out of the ground with proven medicinal benefits not? Such hypocrites many are - including those we interact daily with their puffy faces, red marked noses and red-rimmed eyes from alcohol abuse. I lose track of what the "good" and "bad" drugs are...

Bring on the ban. I'll throw thousands at it. Code compliance meant nothing to these "legal commercial growers". Cost us $200k in loss of property value for living next to that POS. BRING ON THE BAN.

Except for the part where the staff will be cut because of funding shortages. Now our men and women in blue, who are "paid" to protect us have over 700 former homes/properties that were growing marijuana to still check to make sure no grows are still happening. Doing that while taking emergency calls? Oh boy, we sure have a mess on our hands. If your house is being robbed, call one of the ambulance services, at least you might get a siren to frighten the burglars, or rapist at your door.

The people have spoken. It is still legal in the state of California, as the people have spoken. Every person over the age of 21 can grow 6 plants. In four years the big companies will be allowed to start growing on a commercial scale that no one has ever seen before. It is sad to see a large waste of tax payer money that was spent on this whole process. That money is "up in smoke".

Welcome, illegal cartel growers. You can now operate in Calaveras County without worrying law enforcement will have the funds to stop you. Invade remote areas of public parks and private property, operate without any inspections or regulations. Remember the 90s? It will be just like that again. They'll catch a tiny percentage of you and the rest will make windfall, tax-free profits.

Stupid is as stupid does and the bansters in Calaveras are phenomenally stupid.

"Millions in tax dollars? Prove it!" REALLY? You have no clue, do you?
I'm sorry, the poster was correct in the millions of dollars collected, where have you been? This was all started by our former BOS because of all the monies in taxes that could be, and were collected through commercial medical marijuana. The Sheriff dept did state that a few law enforcement personnel would be cut, without the marijuana taxation. They will also still need to check on all these former properties to see if they have stopped all growing...with a cut in law enforcement personnel.
In other words, you better secure all your belongings, lock everything up and hope you don't need to call 911, because you might have a wait on your hands. If you live on or near hwy 4, you might get the CHP which will be quicker.
Good luck folks, we are back where we were before this was legal, but "we" will be a few less law enforcement officers then when we were back then, and crime has escalated.

Remember, there were just slightly over 200 permitted growers. It's a bit much to crow about so much contribution. Are you prepared to declare the expense you, the growers have cost this county and its citizens? It's certain that it is many times more than any taxes and fees you could have, would have, or did pay.

Second, the five incompetent individuals that make up our board of supervisors allocated the money in all the wrong areas. The money was intended for PUBLIC SAFETY, NOT TO BALLANCE OUR THE COUNTIES BUDGET. So, now that they have toyed with NICE PEOPLE, they will lose more money they could ever imagine.

Lawsuits? Growers were going to sue no matter which way this turned out. They are sadly shortsighted and entitled, mostly to their own detriment. Do they not realize that even if they were to have "regulation" they would be driven out because commercial marijuana will very likely all too soon be an ancillary product line of Phillip Morris and a plaything of R.J. Reynolds.

When the corporations take over they will farm responsibly and efficiently, making the little guys economically non-viable. There are no criminal gangs involved in tobacco growing and it costs nothing for enforcement to make that happen, it's all economics and market forces.

Very few paid taxes and now they are suing to get their money back. I'd love to see the number on income tax, SSI, SDI, Medicare and all the other taxes. Pot is all under the table and barter. You'd have to be completely blind not to be able to see that people who carry suitcases of cash and trade in crytocurrency (Bitcoin, etc.) are not paying their full share of tax.

The growers are parasites, sucking up services and feeding off the taxes paid by working people. The growers weren't paying for their water, they were stealing it from hydrants in broad daylight while honest citizens paid their bill each month, The growers didn't pay for grading permits and inspections, the just ripped up the land. The growers weren't paying for pesticide permits, they just dumped their poison wherever they wanted. I could continue but what's the point.

Thank you Tofanelli, Mills and Clapp! You made the right decision. You did what the majority of the citizens who elected you wanted. One only needs to look at your election results, and Calaveras County's election counts for Measure D and Prop 64 to know this is what the majority wanted.

Ignore the potheads claiming doom and gloom as a result of this decision, they're stoned and don't know what they're talking about. It will not be easy to rid our county of the cannabis filth, but it can be done. We don't need their filthy drug money.

To be honest, I didn’t care if it was banned or regulated. I’ve live in the county for 23 years and have met a lot of nice growers and not so nice growers. But that also goes for people who don’t grow, a lot of them are not nice like everyone is portraying. Anyways, I’m quite nervous with our county, a lot of lawsuits have been filed and I don’t want to see our county claim bankruptcy.

I have to agree with you. The biggest problem we face now is a cut in law enforcement officers due to we can not pay them. They will also need to check multiple times those former grow properties while still taking emergency calls from the public. Those pot holes you were complaining about? You might as well go get a few bags of cutback (cold mix asphalt) and patch those pot holes you're always complaining about, because unles you're a supervisor, or in the road dept, and it's in front of your home, it won't be fixed.
Look at the Redhill Disposal site. It took over 4 months for the dept to fill in the giant pot holes where the bins are loaded and off loaded. This is just the beginning folks.

Do not believe those who are concerned about future revenue for Calaveras are making "threats." Have you not seen today's Enterprise headline where the future of a fire department in the Mtn Ranch and West Point areas is threatened because it's budget has already been cut? Also, the county itself is talking about suing growers who have not as yet paid their "fees." Yeah, good luck with that.
