Calaveras County Junior Livestock Boosters Raise Over $12,000 at their 25th Annual Dinner on Saturday Eve~By Hanna Heath

Angels Camp, CA….Last night the Calaveras County Junior Livestock Boosters held their 25th annual dinner dance at the Calaveras County Fair Grounds in Angels Camp. The boosters are a non-profit organization whose main objective is to help support Calaveras County Fair participant who sell an animal at the Fair’s auction. Their mission, set forth in our by-laws, is to boost the price of animals sold through the auction that, we determine, did not bring at least enough to break even. We do this so that each entry has the ability to participate in what, we feel, is a valuable learning experience....

The boosters are able to provide these opportunities because of their one and only annual Calaveras County Junior Livestock Boosters Dinner/Dance fundraiser. Each year this fundraiser raises between $10,000-$15,000. This money not only helps pay for livestock, but is allows the group to give away five $500.00 scholarships that are given away to deserving Bret Harte seniors each year.

More than eight hundred people attended this wonderful event last night raising over $12,000 for the boosters. This amount however does not include money that was raised by raffle tickets. Attendants had the opportunity to buy raffle tickets for over 210 raffle prizes and by purchasing a dinner they were automatically entered into the door prize- Carson Valley Inn Trip worth $250.00. These prizes were donated by locals and local business in Calaveras County. Some of the prizes included a $25.00 gift certificate to Angels Food Market, $25.00 gift certificate at El Jardin Restaurant and many more.

After speaking with Rusty Mordrell the president of the boosters club, he stated “This event is a gathering of the local community to help support the Calaveras County Junior Livestock.” He also shared that the Boosters are always seeking new members and invite anyone interested in becoming a member and help upport our local community.
