156 Pounds of Marijuana Seized From Bakersfield Man after Traffic Stop

Angels Camp, CA...On 10-19-17, at approximately 11:45 PM, an officer from the Angels Camp Police Department made a traffic enforcement stop on a truck pulling an enclosed trailer. The trailer had a non-functioning license plate, which is required equipment. While approaching the driver the officer could smell the strong odor of marijuana emanating from the trailer. After initially denying possessing any marijuana, the driver eventually admitted to possessing what he claimed was medicinal marijuana.

In the end, seventeen (17) large plastic garbage bags of marijuana, totaling 156 pounds, were seized from the trailer. The driver, Rafael A. Iraheta, a 32 year old Bakersfield resident, was arrested, cited and released in the field on charges related to transportation and possession of marijuana, for sales. The marijuana was logged into evidence at the Angels Camp PD. During an interview, and prior to issuing the cite, Iraheta eventually admitted that he was employed on a marijuana grow site, at an undisclosed location in Murphys. Iraheta stated that he received the marijuana as payment for work he completed at the site.

Pursuant to changes in CA law related to Proposition 47, possessing any amount of marijuana for sales, or transporting any amount of marijuana, with certain limited exceptions, are misdemeanor offenses. The majority of misdemeanor offenses are handled by issuing a citation in the field.

This is a worker readily admitting he is paid in marijuana. Tell me that these growers want to follow the rules and regulations. I don't think so.

The guy was pulled over because "The trailer had a non-functioning license plate"??
None of the license plates on my vehicles do anything but sit there quietly attached. How much "functioning" are they supposed to do?

With a bogus reason like that, the guy should've claimed personal use for that 156lbs.

Taxes

That's $150,00 to $450,000 worth of weed. How much tax do you suppose was paid on that?

Does anyone believe Mr. Iraheta was going to pay his income tax, Social Security taxes, Medicare insurance, state disability insurance, etc., on all of that income?

Is anyone going to ask his employer for Mr. Iraheta's IRS W-2? On which line of the W-2 do you declare 156 pounds of pot?

Regulate Commercial Cannabis Cultivation. Tax it.
Money for sidewalks and bike paths AND money for the
Sheriff to get rid of the Outlaw Growers!

Maybe opening up a trailer sales lot would be a good business in the fall in Calaveras County. Trailers with license plates and lights.

I'm sure he wasn't working for a registered legal farm. Those farms only do everything by the books and only hire local people with no criminal background. Registered farms are dreamy and their marijuana smells like fresh mountain air during a rainfall.

Going way back, supervisor's for many year's plus entrenched Calaveras County families have kept our county so tightly wrapped that anything that would produce jobs can't get to first base! Look at our county seat: one locally owned grocery store, really only one place that is first class to dine: The Pickle Patch, and hundreds of welfare people wandering the streets, day and nite! You wonder why we have attracted the pot industry? You got your answer! You live on that side of the county, and if you want to buy anything but booze and cigarettes you head for Jackson or Stockton, hiway 4 people head for Sonora! We are collecting very little in sales tax, it all leaves the county, we attract no industry, and pot isn't the answer! So, wake the F up and get with progress so we don't depend on dope to fund our schools and every other aspect of our economy!

Yep, look at the stores in Jackson and Sonora, a couple of decent anchor stores in Calaveras Co. would be nice and bit of a tax base also.
All we are is a big "Pot-Mart". Something to be proud of, NOT!

Stop all box trucks and trailers

I would think having a U-haul in this county would be reasonable suspicion this time of year. Good job ACPD.

I would stop every box truck and trailer for the most ticky tacky violation I could find. I'm so sick of the dopers.

This is a bunch of crap . There is no way these people are claiming taxes . Why don't we just really screw up this County. How about some Strip joints ! Like maybe Wendells in Moke Hill and maybe down the road from Murphys . And since there are no Teachers at CUSD the kids can pick up on that !!
