‘Mammo-GLAM’ – ‘Girls-Night-Out’ with a Serious Purpose

San Andreas, CA...Two “Mammo-GLAM” events marking Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October give local women the opportunity to overcome fear of a critical health screening by surrounding it with some quality girlfriend time. Think of it as “girls-night-out” with a serious purpose – helping women overcome mammogram fears and shape a healthy future. Oct. 10 and Oct. 26 are the dates for these unique gatherings at Mark Twain Medical Center.

The Main Lobby will be the setting from 5 to 7 p. m. both evenings with easy access to the Diagnostic Imaging department for screening appointments. “Mammo-GLAM” can help busy women fit a life-saving screening into their daily routine – during the evening hours.

Secure your doctor’s order for a mammogram and then call to reserve a screening time. If you are not due for a screening, join the fun anyway to show your support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Fun activities include a “bling” photo booth with colorful props to encourage dress up that is expected to spark social media fun as attendees post and text their “glammed-up looks” with personal messages. Zumba fun, healthy lifestyle resources and tasty refreshments will also be featured.

Call 745-2517 for reservations and more information.

The Mark Twain Medical Center Foundation is holding a raffle throughout October benefiting women’s health programs and tickets will be available at both events. Tickets are $5 each or five for $20. The prize is a basket of items with a total value of more than $600 – including local restaurants, wineries and boutiques. For raffle information, call 754-2624.

Mark Twain Medical Center and Mark Twain Health Care District are co-sponsors of the “Mammo-GLAM” campaign. MTHCD Board Member Susan Atkinson notes, “The district is excited to be taking an active part in this project focusing on women's breast health through education and prevention.”

She adds, “We have purchased breast self-exam models and will offer training on their use at the Mammo-GLAM events. We will also be subsidizing Common Ground Senior Services to help provide rides for women who have no other means of transportation to/from the events.”

Common Ground will have an eight passenger bus and three vans (three passengers and one wheelchair each) available to begin picking folks up one hour before the event and returning them up to one hour after the event. Call 209-498-2246 to request a ride.
