Governor Brown Signs "Sanctuary State" Legislation

Sacramento, CA....Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today signed a package of bills to enhance housing, school, workplace and civil protections for California's immigrants.  "This action protects public safety and ensures hard-working people who contribute to our state are respected," said Governor Brown.   The Governor signed the following bills today:

- AB 21 by Assemblymember Ash Kalra (D-San Jose) - Public postsecondary education: Access to Higher Education for Every Student.
- AB 291 by Assemblymember David Chiu (D-San Francisco) - Housing: immigration.
- AB 299 by Assemblymember Ian C. Calderon (D-Whittier) - Hiring of real property: immigration or citizenship status.
- AB 343 by Assemblymember Kevin McCarty (D-Sacramento) - Public postsecondary education: holders of certain special immigrant visas.
- AB 450 by Assemblymember David Chiu (D-San Francisco) - Employment regulation: immigration worksite enforcement actions.
- AB 699 by Assemblymember Patrick O'Donnell (D-Long Beach) - Educational equity: immigration and citizenship status.
- SB 29 by Senator Ricardo Lara (D-Bell Gardens) - Law enforcement: immigration.
- SB 54 by Senator Kevin de Leon (D-Los Angeles) - Law enforcement: sharing data. A signing message can be found here.
- SB 68 by Senator Ricardo Lara (D-Bell Gardens) - Public postsecondary education: exemption from nonresident tuition.
- SB 156 by Senator Joel Anderson (R-Alpine) - Military and veterans: transition assistance: citizenship.
- SB 257 by Senator Ricardo Lara (D-Bell Gardens) - School admissions: pupil residency: pupils of departed parents: residents of adjoining state or foreign country: school district reimbursement.

Today's signings follow a series of actions by Governor Brown and his administration to bolster resources and support for the immigrant community. Since taking office, Governor Brown has signed the California Dream Act, which allows top students who are on the path to citizenship to apply for college financial aid and AB 60, which extends the legal right to drive on the state's roadways to millions more Californians. The Governor has also signed legislation to help fund legal services for unaccompanied minors arriving in California from Central America as well as legal services to assist immigrants seeking naturalization and deportation defense; legislation to extend health care coverageand other protections to undocumented children in the state; and a number of other bills to enhance protections for immigrants.

Last year, the Governor appointed a director of immigrant integration to serve as the statewide lead for coordinating immigrant services and monitoring the implementation of immigration assistance programs. Last month, Governor Brown signed legislation to provide $30 million in financial aid for immigrant students and legal services for young people with Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) status and the administration launched the California Immigrant Guide website to help connect immigrants with resources and services provided by the state.

It makes me feel good to know my already pillaged paycheck is going to house and educate non U.S. citizens in California. I can’t wait for the newest gas tax next month.

Free education, housing, food, jobs, and health care...sign me up! I will ride the gravy train too! I can't get arrested or deported, this is awesome! And I'm not even a U.S. Citizen! I thought a government existed to serve and protect it's CITIZENS, not it's NON-CITIZENS-but wow I was wrong-come to California where the government serves it's NON-CITIZENS and demands the CITIZENS to pay for it! I'll bring all my family here before the citizens wake up and revolt or before they all jump off this sinking ship...then the money will dry up and California will become Northern Mexico.

In regards to the nice little comment about us needing immigrants to work the fields-get your facts straight. There are 100 million Americans out of work, there are 15 million illegal immigrants. The 15 million leave, taking their low wages with them which have been undercutting American wages-and wages will go up and Americans will work the jobs.

I am the original poster. You are a fool. Throwing labels, and a tirade is real productive. How anyone cannot see the ultimate demise of this once great state is beyond me. You are a typical leftist who can only jump up and down, insult and scream. My only hope, is the more will get out in time and that the Fed will not bale the state out of the mess. Commifornia is the next Puerto Rico. Just a matter of time. Grow up and stop using Antifa as your benchmark for progress.

If there was a president that acted presidential this would be a different story, but NO ,we have a child in office that probably can't tie his own shoes
That compared to someone that has made his agenda to HELP this state for over 50 years

Libs just cant get a grip on reality. All the seasonal field workers aren't illegal. They come into California, work here, and then go back home. All within the law. If they are illegally here......THROW THEIR ASS OUT !

Contact the Calaveras Board of Supervisors to encourage them to follow Federal Law and not be a sanctuary county! Counties can draft resolutions to refuse to take part in this illegal Sanctuary law! There is federal legislation being drafted in Congress to withhold Federal Money from Sanctuary States and Sanctuary Counties-we don't want to be a part of California's Lawlessness!

I can understand the arguments on both sides of the aisle on this one. We shouldn't be harboring criminals period. However, it's not like our children are going to pick crops in the field - Americans have removed themselves from the ag industry except as owners. So, send the illegals away and you can buy your produce from Mexico or pay prevailing wage to pick which will be reflected in grocery store prices. Also, our local police and sheriff departments shouldn't have to be burdened with the cost of ICE programs given their ample federal budget. Being a "sanctuary state" may be over the top but the bigger conversation, long overdue, is offering some type of amnesty program for those already here and contributing, like the DACA young people.

Speak for yourself. I have an adult child who has two children, and she is scrambling to find a job - any job. She would happily work in the fields if it were full time and minimum wage.

I got an idea those that received everything for free (DACA) and did not follow through and become legal citizens of the U.S. get to return to Mexico. The can apply and complete the process to become a legal citizen or stay in Mexico. Also these Mexicans you say are harvesting our crops must of forgot that they need to stay in the fields. I come from a rural County that is starting to get overrun with Mexicans that are now taking all the roofing jobs, landscaping jobs, cooks, waitressing etc. Your head is absolutely buried in the sand if you think all Mexicans do is pick crops. Also try going to prompt care, your in for a wait as the lobby will be full of Mexicans. Guess who is paying the bill the tax payer.
