Irma's Wrath Takes Aim at Florida Gulf Coast of as Hurricane Winds Officially Reach the Keys

Key West, FL...Extremely dangerous Hurricane Irma is centered at 8 p.m. EDT about 110 miles (175 km) southeast of Key West. Radar loops indicate that Irma has temporarily slowed down, but the hurricane has been moving toward the west-northwest near 7 mph (11 km/h) since earlier today. A northwest motion is expected to begin tonight with a turn toward the north-northwest on Sunday. On the forecast track, the core of Irma will continue to move near the north coast of Cuba during the next few hours, and should be near the Florida Keys Sunday morning. The hurricane is expected to move along or near the southwest coast of Florida Sunday afternoon.

Irma is a category 3 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. Irma is forecast to restrengthen once it moves away from Cuba and remain a powerful hurricane as it approaches Florida.

Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 70 miles (110 km) from the center, and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 195 miles (315 km). Marathon International Airport recently reported a sustained wind of 48 mph (77 km/h) and a gust to 67 mph (108 km/h). The minimum central pressure based on aircraft data is 932 mb (27.52 inches).

In response to all the Republicans in Texas and Florida who deny climate change, I hereby deny that Harvey and Irma occurred. No aid for you guys.

I am tired of all the crazy people being on one side of these arguments and urge Democrats to work on developing their crazy. There is a "crazy" gap and we need to close it quickly.

Turn off all of the weather modification stations would be a huge start. Sadly the sheep would rather believe in the fairy tale of climate change. Oh yes there is climate change but our government and other governments are in control of it. It is called weather wars.

These Hurricane disasters are Obama's fault. Plain and Simple!

For over twelve years GW Bush prevented any serious Hurricane landfalls after Clinton's Katrina, But Obama rejected following GW's example.
Now, due to Obama's bumbling incompetence, he is continuing to destroy America with these Deadly Hurricanes.

We all know the blame truly falls on Obama's mom-jeans lap, since everything bad that happened during Obama's tyranny was blamed on his predecessor GW.

I believe the Republican dinosaurs were in firm control of their government and thus did nothing to stop the climate change that made them extinct. I'm unsure if Russian dinosaurs were messing with the elections or if sensible dinosaurs just didn't turn out to vote. Records from that period are sketchy and often poorly preserved.

Many in the current Republican party should be considered dinosaurs and should be voted out. Their brains are too small to govern with intelligence and compassion. If you have a larger brain you'll know what I mean.

It's like Mother Nature saying, "no, f you!" I feel bad for the climate change deniers at this point, they're like children still holding on to the belief in Santa.

All throughout South Florida there are permanent road signs indicating evacuation routes during hurricanes.
Rest assured, Floridians are used to flooding.

Storms are NOT more frequent and worse.
Storms like this have been going on since Pangaea. The only difference today is the expanded population congestion in the affected area exacerbating the economic damage and media coverage.

You should calm down, go to your safe space and get real.

Reposted here from Trump announcement entry to achieve larger audience (and annoy more people):

There have always been storms but we are having once in 500 year and once in 1000 year storms with some frequency. So.....either I've really lost track of time and Harvey was 500 years ago or, and I think this is more likely, we are having more frequent severe storms.

You have to be a hard-core denier to not realize the climate is changing and the storms are worse.

Then, of course, there was the great flood that Noah had to deal with. So I guess there were some pretty bad storms before we started burning all the fossil fuels. Of course, that might have been a hoax pushed by the Chinese too. It's hard to know who to believe until I see it on Fox. Then I'll know it's not whatever Fox says.

And we should remember it may not be because of climate change. Ann Coulter said that Harvey was caused by Houston having previously had a gay mayor. And I think Rush said Irma was being hyped by liberals trying to sell climate change and backed up by commercial interests trying to sell flashlight batteries. Of course, after saying Irma was a scam, Rush evacuated north, so maybe he lost a little credibility there. Probably should go with Ann's idea - this is all God's wrath for tolerating gays. Yeah, that's it.

So really, no more tolerating gays until someone can find Noah's plans for the ark and figure out how long a cubit is. Maybe we can build it a little smaller since we've driven quite a few species to extinction since Noah's time.

Republicans are always complaining about passing national debt onto our grandchildren, but they have no reservations about passing on a badly damaged planet. Climate change deniers are doing a tremendous disservice to anyone who is a child or young adult today. Between 2050 and 2100 those people, our children and grandchildren, are going to have to deal with the consequences of failing to act aggressively against CO2 production now (and over the past 10-15 years when the problem was scientifically proven).

If I were a rich man, I would buy a tract of land and create a National Monument of Dishonor. In it I would erect a statue of every politician, big money donor (Koch brothers), and tv or radio personality who rejected the clear teachings of climate science on climate change and, with any means at their disposal, caused the US to not deal with the problem. Each statue would have a base that contained quotations from the person depicted, recording in stone forever their lies and evasions ("I'm not a scientist") on climate change. Our children and grandchildren would thus have a clear record of exactly who caused the planet to warm, the oceans to rise, the permafrost to melt and release tons of CO2, whole countries to flood causing civil chaos and war, and, in general, ruined the planet God gave us. Let the stupidity, greed and shame of the people who caused this problem never be forgotten. It would be the opposite of Arlington National Cemetery - those with statues in my park would be remembered for the dishonor of their lives.

If you happen to be a rich person and like this idea, please do get in touch. We might even make money as a tourist attraction if we put it in a blue state. I think coming generations will want to know who exactly F'ed this up so badly.

Um excuse me Mr Einstein? Sir, have you ever lived um,
you know, um in a place where they have these things called
hurricanes, you know, tropical WEATHER. They have these patters the
weather it does, and some of these people call it hurricane season.
Even those mental retarded guys you see on the Weather Channels
who stand in 100 miles an hour winds saying "this is how
windy it is Andy" and then a tree limb takes him out knows
    what hurricane season is.
I think sir, that maybe you should go back to school. Maybe
start about 5th grade, no...no ..maybe 3rd grade would be a
    better place for you.
Good um luck sir. um, if that doesn't work for you, they're...
um, the guys, you know,at the Weather Channel? um
they are always looking for idio.....um, I mean a little extra help...just ask for Andy, k?

If you are too stupid to see patterns and changes taking place over the whole world and over several years, there is no point in discussing it with you. You probably thought the CA drought was over every time you stepped into the shower - "Oh, good, more rain."

It will do no good for you to go back to school at any grade. Schools could teach you the facts of climate change, but you are not open to education. And you lack the critical thinking needed to understand it. You have confused political belief with science and reason.
