Sheriff DiBasilio Assigns Sgt. Greg Stark to Rural Crime Prevention Task Force

San Andreas, CA...In an ongoing effort to better serve Calaveras citizens, Sheriff Dibasilio has assigned a tenured Sergeant to Rural Crimes Prevention Task Force. The mission of the task force is to develop solutions to the unique crimes afflicting the public in Calaveras County’s rural areas while protecting both people and property. The Task Force is committed to making our individuals, businesses and their property safer.

The Rural Crime Prevention Task Force will work closely with community groups such as the Calaveras County Farm Bureau, the Cattlemen’s Association, and Neighborhood Watch groups throughout the county. Its wide ranging focus will be on investigations involving livestock, heavy equipment theft, food and agricultural crimes, Fish and Game Laws, animal fighting, bees and hives, CA trespassing laws, and metal theft.

Information gathering, as always, will be a key component of the program. Citizens are encouraged to report any and all suspicious activity to the Sheriff’s Office. Far too often, citizens dismiss minor rural criminal activity by assuming that the Department should not be bothered with trivial issues. Those issues may be very relevant. The Task Force depends on you as a partner in our community orientated policing concept.

Please contact Sgt. Greg Stark (Rural Crime Prevention Task Force Supervisor) if you have any questions. 209-754-6500 or 209-754-6783

On behalf of those of us who live on country roads and more isolated properties, thank you.

Definitely not as safe as it used to be up here! Weirdo's up and down the roads all day and night. Wish Touolumne Co. or A.C. PD patrolled up here. Man, they are always busting people. Come Calaveras Co. SO, get your stats up, we are behind you all the way, just clean up the mess.

    Illegal Grows
Posted on: 2017-09-05 11:52:17   By: Anonymous

So isn't illegal grows part of rural crime?
Where can citizens find the logs of enforcement against illegal grows?
There was a much ballyhooed bust a month and more ago, silence after that.
    Has enforcement stopped? Why?

The registered growers will sue the county for non enforcement, and recover their fees.
If you can grow without registration and not be stopped, why pay fees?

    Where is enforcement?

Yes, what is status of cleaning up this county regarding illegal grows and those that have registered and continue to violate emergency ordinance, too may RV's, water violations, pollution violations, noise violations, grows visible from public roads and right-ways, too much shooting, to many loose dogs, unsightly properties, odors and the arrogance of so many farmers. They don't play by the rules. PLEASE DO SOMETHING. How about open transportation of plants right down Jesus Maria, that isn't legal! Moving several truck and trailer loads of plants in broad daylight, total disregard of law and no fear of law enforcement. PLEASE DO SOMETHING, maybe us law-abiding citizens should sue the county for continuing to let this all happen. This county is becoming a more dangerous environment every day. So many new operations up here this year.

um, since you seem to see all of these things, have you called the sheriff dept and reported these problems? Or do you, like many people think, "I don't want to get involved?"
That's what I thought, let someone else call, not me.

Good question. We have a new illegal grow near Murphys just moved there about 3 weeks ago and already have their big hoop houses up and planting in them. It would be pretty quick and simple to shut them down and send them back to New York (which is where the new owner lives) Why wait?

Yep. I keep passing that person with the NY plates. Also why speaking up when something doesn't feel right is exactly the right thing to do. The SO depends on citizens to know their neighbors and who belongs. They can't be everywhere.

The fire did enough damage to the county, the rotten dope growers/dealers are putting the final shot to head of this county, wow, kinda sounds familiar to how those lives ended up RR Flat road year before last???

What good does it do us to arrest them if they are released within 24 hrs? A task force won't have any impact there. More needs to be done to keep them behind bars ( and I'm not talking about where they get their booze!).

Concealed carry

Blah, blah, blah. They still and will always make it difficult, if not impossible to protect oneself. Hey sheriff how about re-quoting the sheriff in one of the counties affected by Harvey. "We support the second amendment and you may leave in a bag." Referring to looting. No matter how much they try to snow us, they cannot be everywhere.

The Sheriff does support the second amendment and will issue a concealed carry permit. Just ask.

Good time to reference the huge illegal grows out Penn. Gulch! If I had been raided on 12 or26 I would be stinking mad, again is there something sacred about Murphy's? Get your s together and bust these crap heads, you wait another week or three and these crops will be out of here, and headed for the Mid West and beyond! Do your job so we the citizens don't have too!
